Hey hey,
I was speaking with the previous owner of my 2.5 GT, and he mentioned hearing about a solution you can run in your engine to seal damaged head gaskets at least temporarily. I did a quick google of the stuff, and I guess it is called Engine Block Sealer?
Has anyone tried this stuff/know if, or how well it works?
Thanks a lot,
Phil

There's the Subaru additive that you can put in your coolant. But that only last for so long.
I suggest not to use that stuff. It'll eventually clog your waterpump and more problems can come out of it. Replacing the headgaskets are the only fix. good luck.

The revised HG are the only permanent solution. Anything else is a bandaid and will still end up like a ticking time bomb.
When replacing the HGs, make sure the heads are flat. They are alloy, and can warp under high pressure. The block is also made of al.

Thanks. My intention is to possibly use this block sealing stuff to allow me some time to save up for a Japanese engine replacement. If I'm going to spend $2500 for HGs and a clutch, I might as well spend $3400 to get a new (well, used) engine entirely that already has all the potentially faulty items replaced, also including a clutch.
I know I still have yet to post pictures of it, but the interior and exterior condition of my BD is in good enough shape that I could definitely see making an investment like this to ensure that I have the vehicle for a good number of years.

Or you could just use the money to buy a replacement engine, install the new HGs, and drop the engine in yourself. If you have access to a hoist and some decent tools you could buy and build your new engine and install it yourself in a day.

I wish I could. Unfortunately, the nearest access to said equipment is about a 3 hour drive south of where I go to uni. I also live in an apartment complex which forbids working on cars in the parking lot. I could have actually had my lease terminated if they had been in a bad mood and caught me installing my deck and speakers in the lot.
My roommate did the Japanese switch into his '99 BD, but all his tools, etc is back down south. Unfortunately, with the current range of my vehicle prior to overheating, coupled with the money I would not be making by taking a day or three off work, and my relative inexperience with working on vehicles, it's almost better for me to have someone else do it.
I would love to be able to do it myself, I think it would be a great experience, and I would learn a ton about how the engine bay is laid out, etc., I just don't think I can right now. =\

Haha, touche. I may actually have to take you up on that. How do your weekends look? The Engine company is based out of Chico, and they said they'd meet me in Sac with it for free.
Check your pm.
To relate specifically to this thread, I put the Sealing Solution in my car within the first month I had it because it's only $1.49 and the previous owner had never done it. No side effects so far. (6-7k miles later) As stated, it wont fix anything, it's just a precaution.
