Hey everyone,
I have a 2005 2.5i
Is there any way to put a supercharger in that rather than a turbo?
If so, where could I find a proper one?
Thanks

its cheaper to buy a avo turbo kits instead of the raptor kit, i looked into it and its too expensive with little output compared to the turbo

Well the thing is I'd rather have the instant power that a supercharger offers
rather than more power after the spool up time on a turbo.
I'm fine with not having the fastest car on top end but to me the pros of a supercharger
outweigh the pros of a turbo for me.
Is there any specific brand or website I could check up on to see if that's feasible?
Thanks
Huffer

Are the WRX and Legacy engines the same?
I assumed not, my mistake lol

yea subarus are like legos. pretty much "anything" from one will go into another if you got the right parts.

I've always thought supercharging was the best way to go if you want forced induction on an N/A. Since you can only run low pressures with the N/A's, a keeping that instant responce would be desired i imagine
That said, sticking a VF10 on a 2.5 n/a would have NO lag at all - i don't know how long the poor thing would last though!

So, Thanks to Huffer I found a supercharger (do they make them cheaper than $4,500 though?)
but your saying I would need to build up the engine?
How could I do that i.e. what parts should I be looking at?

You could rig a supercharger from another vehicle onto your Subaru. There's a guy over on nasioc that took a Mercedes charger and mounted it to his 1st gen Legacy. I believe his name on there is Reddevil or something like that. He has an enormous thread with all that he had done to it to get it running properly. You could do this also if you have the mechanical incline. It would be cheaper than the $4500 kit, but you have to put a lot of man hours into the fabricating your own system.

Here's the link to the supercharger project on NASIOC.

Red devil was twin charged though. supercharger AND turbocharger. And IIRC, he breaks engines almost weekly ;)
Arleighj, you only need to rebuild your engine if you want to run high boost pressure. The reason behind this is that N/A's have too high a compression ratio for turbo-ing. 8.5:1 seems a good ratio for turbo, 9 or 10:1 even, is what the N/A's usually have. This means you can only run low boost, for example 5-10 psi or something, before getting detonation. By contrast, i run 20psi in my wagon and it simply HAULS once the boost kicks in. There's always a trade off with this too, low ratio means the car will be laggy, and you'll only get power once the turbo gets up to speed, but you can make ALLOT of power this way. I know of drag subarus in australia that have ratios of something like 8:1, but run 25 or even 30 psi

remember that that is a Australia company there prices are in AUD so its roughly $2900 USD for the stage 1 kit
