I just couldn't justify $250 for a thule or yakima cargo basket that looks so obtrusive on a subaru (more for jeep owners or big suvs).

So I came up with my own design and fabbed /welded/painted my own cargo basket .

First I found some scrap wire rack(shelving) and cut/welded together and then painted black. I had to measure a proper fit so I could keep my bike rack ontop too! I just used simple u-bolts to secure it to my Thule rack.

My purpose was for a full size spare/shovel/chains. My cost $3.98 for paint:D

That's awesome. Where did you get the shelving from?

He probably won't respond as this was done 6 years ago. However, I've seen that stuff at most home improvement/hardware type stores.
