Coolant loss

Has anyone found a common/consistent culprit for coolant loss for the second gen legacy (2.5gt)?

Mine seems to lose coolant only when the system is under pressure. Between the steady rain over the past two days and the excess coolant in the bay from overheating/spilling while refilling, I can't pinpoint the leak.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

make sure all of ur clamps are tight? make sure you have the right clamps that dont cut into the hoses!

How old is your water pump?
Rut roh, how many miles? When it over heats do you loose the heat? Is your overflow tank, overflowing? Does it always overheat or occassionally? How old is the T-stat and the radiator cap?

Ugh. It's a headgasket or worse. Add that to the iffy automatic transmission and squirrely suspension and it's not worth any more of my money, IMO.

Anyone want to buy a fixer-upper with a nice shell, new bosal muffler, new pads and rotors, new alignment, new cv joints, and new ps inner tie rod? PM me.

Have a compression test done, your head gaskets could be on their way out.

it's weird, i got my hg's taken care of earlier after summer was over. Recently I've had problems with coolant loss.

After doing a throttle body coolant bypass with Shane, I got some overheating and then took care of it by venting out the air in the system. Semester passed by, but come December [lots of driving], I'm having coolant issues where I'm overheating due to loss of coolant. I can refill it and it lasts a few days, but after a while, i see the needle pass the 40% mark and I find there is no coolant in the overflow even though i filled up pretty much everything.

I'm ruling out HG's to be culprits, what else can be the problem?

Again, turn on car, go underneath and make sure there is nothing leaking from not tight enough clamps.

I have the same slow coolant loss problem, but my HG's are less than a year old and there has been zero temperature fluctuations. Nothing ever leaks onto the ground, and no funny changes in color of the oil either. I'll have to check the coolant reservoir for sludgy residue...

i am having this problem with everything thing explained above i loose the heat when it overheats and the overflow tank is very close to overflowing and its been doing it recently the last couple days just about every time i drive it, the t-stat is about a year old and i replaced the radiator cap yesterday cause it had been leaking and i thought that was the problem but it wasn't i have a 1999 2.5gt with 114,000 miles on it please tell me its not the hg going

Not sure how old the water pump was - never got the paperwork from the previous seller.

Lost heat prior to and during overheating.

Overflow tank overflowed on occasion, generally only after refilling the coolant - generally overflowed before system overheated.

Would sometime last up to 40 minutes of driving without overheating, the overheated about every 20 minutes .

Thermostat and radiator cap were replaced while troubleshooting - did not fix.

I believe it's the head gaskets going/gone allowing the cooling system to become pressurized and blowing the coolant out the overflow tank. Then, with less coolant to cool the engine, it'd overheating quickly and repeatedly.
