Dry Cell or Commercial battery

I was thinking of going with another dry cell battery for my car. My current Duralast is 7 years old, and is possibly on it's way out the door. I used to have an Optima Red top in my old Altima that never let me down. I put in a Previa we bought with a bad alternator. Drove it for 62 miles, pulled the battery out and dropped it in again. Started without a problem.


Although I thought this would be a no brainer for myself, others have had a difference (some good, some bad) of opinion with theirs. Some of the negatives being DOA, and not being able to re-charge or hold a charge, after dis-charge.

Cost was another issue. Most dry cells that I've seen around here are double nearly triple the cost of a conventional battery. I don't mind spending the extra $, but don't want to pay for just a name.

Basically, What options/companies are out there?

three types of batterys dry, wet, wet mantainace free. dry cells are not prone to leaking or evaportaing gas. that is the only benifit doesnt nothing else. wet batterys come in two kinds mantainace or non. mantainace free batterys are a waste of money for the long time. they still will evaportate gas and leak if turned over hard they can not be filled back up. mantainace battery just need to be checked every year just to be safe they do evaporate after a while and cause build up on termnals and need to be cleaned and can last you 7-10 years if you mantain it.
but for preferance on brands. they are only 3 battery makers in the whole world. just different boxes and labels. so brand is just comforting to people. but theyre not real different

Uhm, I know that. I'm AAA battery certified :smt023

I've been out the loop for quite awhile, and wanted to see if anyother names were out (other than Optima) and if anyone else had some bad luck with there choice of dry cell.

So far, it looks like I'll be heading to Wal-Mart for a "wet" replacement. I'd really "like/prefer" a drycell in case I decide to re-locate it.

Hmmm... I know. My friend has 2 in his car, 1 is running just his music in his SPL car. However, he also has a big $ stinger alternator.

I'll check Oddysey as well, I forgot about them.

Any downsides to their construction? My friend always claims he has the best, so I don't ask his opinion. It would be tainted.
