random stall??

ok...so i pulled out of my driveway on my way to work this morning and my 97 outback just stalled...dead...tried to start it, absolutly nothing happened...now my car is dead, taking up most of the road(luckily its a back road noone uses) and try to push it back in the drive way...no go because 120lbs of me vs 2700+ of car, drums, and other random stuff with a speed bump thing at the end of my driveway(idk why its there) = epic fail...so at this point its been a good 3 minutes...i hop in the car and turn the key..and it starts!! why would my car randomly stall and not want to start? its auto so its not like my clutching skill suck and there is no CEL...bit more then 1/4 tank of gas and the thermostat showed about 1/4 and rising...whats going on??



C/N: auto outback randomly stalls and doesnt turn back over, then is fine 3 minutes later...wtf??

Fuel pump relay is going out?

Was it a straight running to dead stall, or was it more of a 'glug glug glug sputter glug stall' affair?

it was running straight then it just stalled, no glugging or hesitation

Battery connection? Check your terminals, clean them up and tighten?

Mine has stalled a few times now, in the same spot during the same situation each time. I'll be responding to a fire call (LED's activated) and will stop on a small hill to check for traffic. Boom. Dead. Turns back over instantly but is very strange.

Could be many things, but in my case it was the crank angle sensor - it randomly decided not to work, especially after the engine cooled down just a bit.

This fault should be stored in the ECU memory.

thanks guys, so far i havent been able to replicate it so thats a good thing, but ill definitly clean up my batt terminals anyway
