STI suspension?

I am getting a set of sti shocks/oem springs for a price too good to pass up. and i know they fit a wagon without sagging. how much more aggressive will they be than my stock GT set up?

Ok- well to be more of use. This is purely speculative but if you think about the STi compared to a GT then...

The WRX is the fast model of an impreza, and therefore would have some stiffer and sportier springs. This just is comparable to the jump from a legacy L to a legacy GT. The STi is another step up from the WRX and the springs here are a step up in stiffness and a reduction in ride height.

The STi has a curb weight of: 3263-3298 lbs
The legacy wagon has a curb weigh tof 2900 lbs. That's a difference of roughly 300 pounds.

So the STi springs should be quite a bit stiffer than your GT springs because they are already stiffer for a car design that is heavier. The difference is that the STi rear springs will not have nearly the same leap in stiffness, as the legacy wagon is heavier in the rear by about 200lbs than the sedan version. This means while your new springs are gaining you cornering ability, the setup is going towards a more under-steer setup in terms of balance (the stiffer the rear, the more oversteer)

Further more, ALOT of STi owners upgrade their springs to stiffer springs or to coilovers. And despite their interchangeability, alot of WRX and impreza owners still switch to better springs even with the surplus of these available cheaply on car forums... which means that they are not the end all be all, but are definitely a cheap alternative for the impreza/legacy crowd and will serve you well.

On a side note, I had read a review of someone who had done this who said that under normal driving they were too harsh and he switched them out. He drove over some not so well maintained roads and had two young kids, and said that they were just too jarring to be practical.

what are the units for aggressiveness?

sti springs are about 225 lb/in front and 195 in the rear. Stock rates are in the 150 range I think. So yeah, stiffer.

The sti shocks have big inverted shafts and pretty stiff valving. Your shocks suck and are probably blown.

Trim the small nub off the front bumpstops before you put them on. It's much better that way.

You'll also need to do something about the alignment. I slotted the lower front holes and got camber bolts for the back.

Any 02-07 wrx suspension and 04 STi will fit, but 07 STI will not. 00+ Legacy wont either due to the multilink rear suspension.

So STi struts with 5Zigen springs, will probably be lower than that :twisted:
