Total cost:roughly $5k($4K if you already have an EJ25D), over the course of what I forsee to be 2 years(average guy with not-so-much money).

I'll be honest, I didn't really read the entire post because I was looking for the "cheap" part. @ $5k, you're basically still the same price as a motor + wireharness merge from a reputable swap-shop like ECS or Broken Motorsports. Even Garage Tuning is around the same price, for parts and labor.

You can find the parts you need for a swap for around $3500 (03 WRX front clip + harness), then if you do the install yourself you'll save around $2700, which leaves just merging the wire harnesses for around $1000. So really, if you do all the labor yourself, and do a swap, you're looking at $4500 and you'll still have a spare motor to flog off for a few bones.

I'm not saying you couldn't boost a BD/BG/BK/EJ25D for less than that, I'm just saying that the price for what you've outlined vs. an actual swap is about the same.
