so i get alot of valve ticking from the heads on my engine. its all brand new all the way across so ive been told its just break in. there also seems to be a faint little knocking on the drivers side head. ive had lots of problems with this car since ive bought it, and ive been told im probably just parinoid. so does everone elses engines do this? BTW DOHC 2.5 forgot to mention that. thanks!

try adding some MOA to your engine oil. that should get rid of the valve noise...

Lucas did it for me, same procedure, add a little to the oil, thickens it up, and it protects better.

Anyhoo. You have a 2.5. You said its all new? Whats all new? You mean your 06 legacy is making noise?
Lifter noise is a common problem with subaru motors. Does the sound go away after the engine wams up? I am not that certain about the 2.5's internal setups (I thought they had little spacers on the rockers?), so maybe if the engine had work done, the spacers installed were not to spec.

Well, it worked for me. The tapping noise was getting super bad, and we tried this on our mechanics advice, and it went down to its normal noise level, and the engine has been running strong. I will continue to use this in small doses until I see a reason not to. But I'm not being totally closed to that arguement, I will know what to look for on the next oil change, and I will check my oil more regularly.
