I've had a desire ever since I got the legacy to build a "Subugru". I always figured I'd just do up an NA engine though. Even the 2.2 in my car makes 100 horsepower more than a stock bug engine. And it does so reliably. If need be, put some 1.8 liter heads and make the 2.2 block high compression. Maybe when I have more money....

Thats the nice things about old VW, you can do almost anything to htme.

There are lots of conversion of putting sooby engines in water cooled VW vanagons. There are some amazing VW Synchros out there.
