Project car plan.

Ok here the idea, i can get a Impreza Sti Wagon Shell for extremely cheap its has all the body parts except a front window.

The resale value on cars here are extremly low so i am thinking it might be a stupid idea to sell my car for 3 grand so i was thinking on getting the shell, restore what i can untill next year and when i get a truck, i would retire my wagon and use the parts on the impreza.
i am planning on getting a truck early next year.

What do you guys think? the other option is, i can just sell my wagon for little or nothing and buy like a 95 impreza WRX and call it a day but i really want to learn how to do as much as i can with Subaru's and i want to do the first Subaru Hybrid build on the island EJ22/25.

Building wont cost much because i have 90% of the parts i need to finish it.

I love Impreza wagons and if its got all the parts it could be a great project car. Those cars are definately more competitive and suited to track use than the heavier Legacy's (no offense). HOWEVER, that thing is a wreck! If you've got a vision go for it, I would love to own a car like that, just make sure you get it for very cheap!

The application will be AutoX and cuircuit, i am not really into drag racing

I say do it. But it doesn't like much is left in there. You'd be doing a lot of swap work to put the entire harness in, and the dash.
You could have a pretty cool project but it's going to be a LOT of work.

At least the chassis looks straight and clean.

Pretty much everything is going to bolt up from your BG, minus the midpipe and the driveshaft.

What class do you plan to run? Think about the cost of replacing interior panels needed to class you in a class you could actually be competitive in... I wouldn't do it because, well I'd rather pick up a car with no motor but is still complete in every other manner for that cheap. Then I can learn where stuff goes on the disassembly, and I can choose what inside the car stays or goes... But that's me.

the car is going to stay gutted with a stationary aluminum fixed seat, i have 2 dashes to choose from, regular WRX or STi, the classes are sorted by tire compounds/ threadware

AutoX is different down here than it is in the states,its not as big but the car will mostly be circuit though.

its not about being mainly competitive, its more like a learning curve with a big bonus :p

i dont see myself completing this till end of 09, i will do as much as i can with guidance of my friends, i want to make as little trips to garages as i can, not because i am cheap but because i wanna learn :smt023

I just got a 93 1 owner Red Wagon complete and driveable.

My application is gonna be different than yours tho. Best of luck and I'd say get it. Half the work is already done for you (stripping out the interior and some parts you're changing anyways)

Heck yeah, me and you have the best of both worlds! Impreza + Legacy is the way to be.

idk why everyone thinks the legacys are so heavy. my legacy (98 gt sedan) weight in at 2835lb w/ subs, speakers, stock setup(so lets say minus ~100-120lb). verses a bone stock 00 impreza L sedan that came in at 2479lb. so a whole 256lb differance.. but thats a lot to some people

I agree. My pig of an Outback weighs 3200. Not too bad. My RS weighs a porky 2800 or 29 with all my junk in it. Not too big of a difference.

Legnth plays a part in that opinion I guess.

More choices of stingy gas sipping motors as well as being more mod friendly too. I would swap a plant in, but keep it pretty much stock.

I can't get rid of my BK. "IF" this deal goes through, I would look into a swap for the Impreza. 5MT/6MT's would definately be on the board. I'd feel alot more at ease (not that its any easier) doing an Impreza to Impreza swap.

the impreza and my legacy drivetrain is pretty much the same as a turbo powertrain for that year, remember i have the GTB Tin turbo drivetrain, i have been thinking about it but suff like the sways would be different, but then again its a impreza, i can easily get a set, adjustable at that :D
