I'm thinking this would also be a good spot to post your car pics so we can get used to what the cars look like, so when you get run off the track, you know who it was

This is my entry

In just acquired another car that I might actually use as well. I got it last night so I still gotta play with it and see if I can get the power to handling balance right, but it might not work out. We'll see.

I was pretty well torn between my Audi S4, honda civic, honda del sol, STi, S2000, and mini. Still am haha.

OMG I FORGOT ABOUT THE MINI! I bought an R32 off the marketplace though and it's kinda fun...gonna mess around with it now and see what happens. :smt006

badbasser98
12-23-2008, 09:23 PM
I was disappointed with the S2k's performance. Sorta seems like its got V-tech lag.. haha. I've been trying to stay away from my STi, but I have run all my best C class lap times in that car. I've been messing around with a RWD car the last few days and think I might have had a break through last night while tuning. Now it seems I can keep the rear hooked up through the corners about 90% of the time... Versus only about 15% of the time before

Plays_with_Toys
12-24-2008, 12:09 AM
My civic was my end all be all, but it needs more power and I can't add any without going over the 550 mark. I think a front wheel drive car is the key to the class as the RWD and AWD cars all tend to oversteer. The FWD's are solid, and under stress of a "real" race are less likely to result in a mistake.

Perdue
12-24-2008, 03:15 PM
Yeah...the mini was pretty nice, but it's taking some getting used to driving a fwd car. I was getting close to the lap times of my STi with a crapload less HP. Maybe I can play with it some more and see what happens. I'm still pretty locked on the STi or R32 tho...they're running about the same lap times.

So I whipped up the SLi logo. I have it as SLi, http://www.SLi.com, and SLi.com flavors. I also made a number plackard. I thought it would be cool to use the plackard to bring a bit of unity to the race series, but I quickly realized how much of a pain in the ass it is to fit it to a paint job after the fact. So, it's up to you guys if you want to use it... I thought it'd be a good idea to put your forum name on the rear bumper so as people are racing they can know who is who more easily. Well. I won't be able to read anyone's names but, y'know. You guys could read mine haha.

BUT! If you want the other sli logos, gift me a car @gamer tag krautastic. Make sure your paint is unlocked. I will place each logo on a single face of the car then gift it back. At that point all you have to do is go into paint, click a square and click highlight all layers. Click a square, then choose "create new vinyl group". You can then paste these vinyl groups onto your cars.

Here's some shots...

Spec class legacy (and I only now realized that my side stripes are a different shade... so ignore that...):

Plays_with_Toys
01-09-2009, 09:25 PM
Ok I fixed the SLi logo. I also made it .net. And I made a new number plackard. It's on another c-class car I've been working on, whose crazy lines make creating a paintjob a serious PITA. So I'm still working on paint...

Updated my entry...You'll have to have a carpack to see it on track, but I like it. Not quite as fast as teh STi, but it's comparable, and sexier IMO.

And why is it that this forum keeps cutting off half the pics? I can't even see the placard.

It doesn't have to be the car you're using. It can be any car. All you do is then set it as a vinyl group. I can place it on your STi if you want though.

01-13-2009, 01:18 AM
Nah. I don't do paint jobs really. I do my own, but I don't tend to do certain sponsors. I go more for body lines.

If you want the logos, add me as a friend (krautastic) then gift me a car that has no paint job on it (if you have one you like make sure you save it in your library before erasing the paint).

When you gift me the car I will place each logo on different sides of the car, then all you do is go into paint, highlight all layers on a side of the car, and then click "create new vinyl group". After giving it a name, that logo will be available for any car.

Obviously you'll want to change the numbers by going into "change vinyl shape" after applying it to your car. Then tweak the letters left to right to ensure they are centered up nicely.

How do I upload a pic of my car online other than with my camera (which turns out shitty)?

<-- Noob :smt023

If you mean uploading a pic without directly hooking up your camera, you'll probably need to get a card reader (sd cards, xd cards, etc.) and insert the card into the reader. Then, when you have the pics on your pc, upload them to your personal website (if you have one), or to a service like photobucket or snapfish (?).

Once you have your pics uploaded, use the IMG reference when posting to show your pictures. That's the only one I use.

Was that what you meant? The only other option I can think of is a stock photo of your car (like from a Subaru brochure). In that case, just grab the file and upload it straight to your website or photo service. Then use the IMG reference as before.

Hope this helps! (Or that I'm corrected swiftly )

By the way, does anyone have any objections to beginning the competition this coming Monday (Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 19th)?

01-13-2009, 10:44 PM
what car class are we racing??

Plays_with_Toys
01-13-2009, 10:58 PM
Go and test drive your car, or use a saved replay from a race. Then You can enter photo mode (while test driving you hit start when you think your car is doing something cool to pause the game and select "take picture". In replay mode there's a button.

Then you move the camera around and snap a shot. Remember changing your focal length really changes how the image looks. I usually zoom in as much as possible.

After taking the pic, when you go to save it, it'll ask if you want to upload it to forzamotorsport.net. Then on forza, you log in with your windows live account/password and retrieve your pics, save them and rehost them. :smt023

I'm good to race this monday. And it's C-class racing.

Plays_with_Toys
01-18-2009, 04:20 AM
The car you start the series with is what you compete with during the series. I imagine after the first race some people may end up making some tuning/part changes to subsidize short comings, unless *crosses fingers* the cars are very evenly matched.

Oh, and remember, you can drop me a car other than the one you're using, and then transfer the decals to your C-class car.

Probably not going to be an even match there PWT. We were racing yesterday and my E30 wasn't doing well against the Detuned 22B's. I'm not doing too well with the STi if TCS is locked on either, so i dunno what I'm going to do. Spec races ftw.

Well... Should be interesting. My Elise (already been posted) is significantly slower in acceleration/speed than other C-class cars, but can take corners 10-15mph faster than most cars. When it came down to lap times it was turning roughly the same lap times as my STi/Audi.

My buddy built up an E30, and I was underwhelmed. Even after tuning, it's class numbers seemed too high for what it was capable of.

A c-class is a c-class. The lightweight cars always suffer in the speed category. So while that car is half the weight of the STi, it'll have substantially less power.

Hey everyone,

To those who were able to make it: good times. To be perfectly honest, this is THE ONLY WAY to enjoy Forza 2 online, in my opinion. I will try to put up some pics from the (potentially hilarious) warmup races we had last night as well. Expect a full review of the competition for this week by Thursday or Friday, with photographs and memories of the pre-and-post race commentary every week in its own separate thread.

To those who were unable to make it (Anothernord and Perdue): no worries! 2 reasons why: (1) there was a last minute problem which required the temporary rescheduling of the meet and all future meets (until further notice) to 8pm Mondays, and (2) I am busy working on some last-minute details, like prizes and point standings. So far, on this topic, we have:

10 points for first place
7 points for second place
5 points for third place
3 points for fourth place
2 points for fifth place
1 point for completing the race
0 points if you DNF

Also, there has been questioning of the "one-car rule" for competition races (i.e. my previous declaration that the car you begin the competition with is the car you run the entire competition with). At my authority (and since I am in charge of replay saves and photography), I will reserve the right to allow users that are obviously being overpowered the chance to change their car. That means if I discover that a car is just being owned (or lapped) in competition and the driver chooses to let me know, I may allow them to change their car to get into something a bit more competitive. Again, this is a case-by-case issue (details are always appreciated when checking into this kind of case).

Unless I am wrong, and feel free to correct me, these are the unofficial standings so far:
CORRECTED!

Plays_With_Toys (Gamertag Krautastic): First Place, 10 points
Mr Sociable: Second Place, 7 points
badasser98 (Gamertag EJ25 LGT): Third Place, 5 points
Ryu Haneda: Fourth Place, 3 points
Zues Marine: Fifth Place, 2 points

Anothernord, Perdue, henryq89: honorary 2 points to stay competitive, which ties you all with Zues Marine for the Fifth Place spot.

Official review and pics to come!

Haha, I bought a few anime girl cars from the auction house (unlocked) and was going to compile a paint scheme for a future drift car. I bought a pretty sweet locked PT Cruiser that has a bunch of flames (looks sort of like real flame), and I swapped that thing for a RWD setup. Another possible drift car... Am I ok to switch my car before my first race? I think it's pretty obvious my E30 won't hang...I had problems keeping up with Matt's 22B before anyways. I'd like to possibly go to my VW R32, but I dunno. I'll have to see what I can do. I'd like to at least be competitive.

Perdue: work on both your E30 and your VW cars before next week's meet. (We may or may not run a provisional later this week to catch up again with everybody.) Speaking personally about not being able to hang, look at the dark horse story that was PWT's Lotus Elise - singlehandedly the most underpowered car on track and yet turning consistent laps again and again.

Next time we run warmups, bring the E30 and we'll see how you stack up. If it's supreme pwnage, then you have a green light for the vdub.

Henryq89: hope to see you next race! Good times had by all. Good night, people...

Note for the night - don't try drifting in an awd car unless you have imaginary brakes, tires, and stooopid amounts of horsepower.

Second note for the night - gotta finalize the prizes! D'oh!

Official review is coming soon, this week has been BUSY. Now that I posted up a long-overdue article in the Member's Rides Magazine section (shameless plug ), I will most likely be cozying up to my Forza 2 tonight for some review and posting of the photos.

If anyone has any photo requests, let me know. So far, one request is for PWT's "breakthrough" moment in the Laguna Seca warmup race. Any other moments recalled?

Oh, and if people could, as a favor, let me know what car you were running for the race. I recall Matt had his red 22b, I had my black STi, Dan had the Lotus elise, MrSociable had the Camaro, but I forgot what Zues Marine was driving. (Just to make it easier for keeping track during the photo shoot to come.)

I think Justin's STi is black with red graphics

Edit: I'm not trying to be a dick, but I'm not going to race the e30. I just don't have time for much of anything right now, and tuning takes a very low priority. There's no way for me to make it competitive in the time that I have, and I'm not even sure if the R32 will be able to hang...it just runs along-side my STi time-trial-wise.

01-23-2009, 05:05 PM

Okay, so I did give away the official standings already, but didn't put up pics. So...

Here's PART 2 of FORZA 2: Your Invitational Week-In-Review!

Part 2: The event
With the exception of the few that couldn't make it (due in part to my last-minute changeover of the start time), SL-i.net's first-ever invitational event got off to a promising start Monday evening. Total attendees included Plays_With_Toys, MrSociable, badasser98, Zues Marine, and myself (with a quick endcap appearance by Anothernord after the evening's competition).

The warmup phase was first. Warmup is a quick race or two to loosen up and prepare racers for the main event. All the evening's racing took place on this week's track selection Laguna Seca.

A quick showing of talent:

Warmups turned out to be funny this time around, and set the stage for some fantastic racing...

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/01/warmup1-1.jpg

PWT's Lotus Elise, swooping in on (and ultimately passing) my black Subaru STi in the warmup phase. Clean and persistent driving from PWT, plus a surprisingly powerful ride.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/01/warmup2-1.jpg

Another warmup pic, showing just how cramped it can get. MrSociable, Zues Marine, and PWT got into it on turn one of a warmup race. Zues Marine would wind up powering through the resulting powerslide, PWT spun out.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/01/warmup5-1.jpg

badasser98's competition ride, a 22b Impreza. With his back-to-back first place finishes on the warmups, it almost seemed like Matt would be walking on the competition this time around. But did he? Read on and find out...

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/01/warmup6-1.jpg

Left to right: Plays_With_Toys, Zues Marine, and ryu_haneda punching it in a warmup race. In the background (far left) is MrSociable's Camaro. And the most interesting warmup moment:

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/01/breakthrough1-1.jpg

Zues Marine and I were battling in the second warmup race for the third place spot. PWT was right behind us in the green Elise. So, I get eager and cut out to the right, Zues Marine sweeps in from the outside, and we hit...

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/01/breakthrough2-1.jpg

For a moment it looks like a dual drift, but that's not all...

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/01/breakthrough3-1.jpg

PWT breaks through in the process! Again, nice job.

So, here comes the feature!

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/01/feature1-1.jpg

Lap 1 begins, and the grid puts me in first place (random placement), followed closely by badasser98 for second. Everyone really kept going from the first through the fourth corners at Laguna Seca.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/01/feature2-1.jpg

But order did not stick around for long...

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/01/feature3-1.jpg

PWT came up to grab third place as Mr Sociable and Zues Marine had contact. Mr Sociable would wind up temporarily losing control, but kept it mostly on track, and Zues Marine held on to fourth place for the moment (Zues would cede fourth to MrSociable at the monster chicane where he went off-track).

Another chunk of action happens in Lap 2:

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/01/feature4-1.jpg

badasser98 cut a line through turn one (after the start-finish line), and PWT had too much power coming in - that explains the souvenir received off Matt's rear bumper. PWT did keep it together though, and tailed Matt's 22b long enough to make a pass and see another opportunity... me:

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/01/feature5-1.jpg

I took one of the uphill curves too fast, and PWT capitalizes on the chance to take first place. Matt would later battle with MrSociable for second place, and I would wind up in fourth, with Zues Marine rounding out fifth place.

Great racing, everyone... and that wraps up the review. See everyone next Monday at 8pm!

-ryu_haneda

All you have to do is in your career mode, go to your cars, click one and instead of "getting into car" there's a bunch of other options. One is called "gift car" Then you select me from your friends list (krautastic) and bam. It's done.

I wouldn't gift me a car you like or will need soon. My xbox broke last week and I'm waiting for it to be fixed, so return time might be a few days at least.

Hey all,

Here come your delayed last week's and week-in-review articles for Forza... enjoy!

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/oldweek1-1.jpg
Week-in-review: last week (week of January 26th)

Feature Track: Sunset Infield
======================
warmup: sebring (sample pic above)

In hindsight, this was actually a VERY active part of the race series, as you will see in the pics below. Above, warmup action begins on Sebring - Mr Sociable's Camaro, Another Nord's EVO, my STi, and Zues Marine and EJ25 LGT battling it out further down the track.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/oldweek2-1.jpg
Matt has his hands full with Zues Marine's STi as the pair pretty much drag race down the opening straight. Zues' STi is not a car to be messed with.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/oldweek3-1.jpg
What would a warmup be without at least one incident? Mr Sociable and I got together just past the second left-hand turn on Sebring. The resulting impact puts me in the wall, and bye-bye front bumper.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/oldweek4-1.jpg
The powerhouse performer. But is he the series leader?

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/oldweek5-1.jpg
YES! The series welcomes Another Nord. Absent during our last outing, unavoidably present at this one.

warmup: sunset infield
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/oldweek6-1.jpg
4 strong into the first major right-hander at the Sunset Infield warmup.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/oldweek7-1.jpg
Squeeeaking by Another Nord. The EVO and Zues Marine's STi got into it a few turns before, but Another Nord only lost control temporarily.

feature: sunset infield
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/oldweekfeature1-1.jpg
Pecking order for the feature - Zues Marine leads off, followed by Mr Sociable, Ryu Haneda, Another Nord, and EJ25 LGT in the back.

memorable moments:

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/oldweekfeature2-1.jpg
LAP 1 - My drift approach to turn three with EJ25 LGT, Mr Sociable, and Another Nord hot on my tail... ultimately EJ25 LGT cuts to the inside ahead of Another Nord and wipes out in front of the EVO.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/oldweekfeature3-1.jpg
STILL LAP 1 - I almost pass Zues Marine down the enclosed straight, but got too focused on Zues and made contact with Mr Sociable. We just barely scratch paint and recover quickly to keep going.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/oldweekfeature4-1.jpg
STILL (!) LAP 1 - Everyone catches up after the second major turn, Zues Marine and I get into it slightly. I went hard on the outside before mashing my brakes, Zues filled in the blank spot and I unwittingly almost completely PIT'ted that STi. (Sorry!)

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/oldweekfeature5-1.jpg
AND SO ON... LAP 1 - EJ25 LGT begins his hard charge. Zues' excellent blocking of my passing attempts apparently opened up a window for Matt to power through.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/oldweekfeature6-1.jpg
LAP 2... bye bye! Matt, Zues, and I powered hard into the first major right hand curve. Zues stayed outside, I hugged the middle, and EJ25 LGT looked like he early apexed/double-apexed the turn to go inside-outside through it. Zues got through, but in the resulting turn, I clipped Matt and my car had enough. Mr Sociable drove past in the Camaro as I suddenly dropped to last place.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/oldweekfeature7-1.jpg
MORE LAP 2... Zues Marine and EJ25 LGT get together at the end of the 1st major left-hander inside, and the exit is quite bumpy as Matt loses it coming out. Zues would later be challenged down the back turn by Mr Sociable's Camaro, finally being passed down by the first major right-hand turn on lap 3.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/oldweekfeature8-1.jpg
LAP 3... I get way too focused on Zues to mind my own business on this turn. I plow into the STi's rear bumper, causing him to completely lose it and bounce off the wall (boiler plate?) as I pass in shame. KEEERUUDDDDD! I voluntarily take a point deduction for this one.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/oldweekfeature9-1.jpg
MEANWHILE, BACK AT THE RANCH... Another Nord is plowing down the straightaway as Lap 4 becomes another historic event in the races. A later battle for first near the end of the show would result in the following finishes:

1st place: Mr Sociable (10 points)
2nd place: badasser98 aka EJ25 LGT (7 points)
3rd place: Another Nord (5 points)
4th place: Zues Marine (3 points plus a point for punting from me = 4 points)
5th place: Ryu Haneda (1 point)

which means that so far in the season:

1st place: Mr Sociable (17 points)
2nd place: tie - badasser98 (aka EJ25 LGT) and Plays_With_Toys (aka Krautastic) - 12 points
3rd place: Another Nord (7 points)
4th place: Zues Marine (6 points)
5th place: tie - Perdue, henryq89, and Ryu Haneda (4 points)

this week: suzuka
=================
SL-i.net travels to Japan (and I don't even remeber what I had for food on the flight in ) as we hit Suzuka. Matt dresses up for the occasion, changing the paintjob on his 22b. This, among some of the other surprises in store...

warmup: suzuka

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/newweek2-1.jpg
Mr Sociable right behind Krautastic during warmups. The Elise can be a surgical scalpel on technical tracks... how would it do here?

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/newweek3-1.jpg
My black STi, with Mr Sociable's Camaro and Another Nord's EVO up through the front S curves.

Oh yeah, and there was a FIRE DRILL? one of our racers temporarily had to stop in the warmups due to a fire drill. Fortunately enough, nobody was hurt.

However, while we waited for the racer to come back, we had a chance to run some warmups with different cars...

feature: suzuka
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/newfeature1-1.jpg
LAP 1
-----
Mr Sociable and Krautastic meet up quickly into the tighter part of turn 1, as I skid out of the way to avoid the mess. Another Nord and EJ25 LGT (not pictured, in the lead) pull away from this with clean noses (and tails).

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/newfeature2-1.jpg
After the first major incident, EJ25 and Another Nord pull away from the pack, and the game from my vantage point beomces a series of great plays for third and fourth place.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/newfeature3-1.jpg
Krautastic puts up a terrific fight with me for fourth place spot (and if the Elise didn't lose control during the last set of chicanes on the last lap, Krautastic could have kept it for good).

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/newfeature4-1.jpg
Up until near the very end, Another Nord had second place locked away until contact made with Mr Sociable.

Final Standings?
1st: EJ25 LGT (10)
2nd: Mr Sociable (7)
3rd: Ryu Haneda (5)
4th: Another Nord (3)
5th: Krautastic (2)

DNS: Perdue, Henryq89, Zues Marine (2 competitive points)

At this point in the competition, DNS allowances will change from 2 points to 1 point per track missed.

Current Competition Results:
1st place: Mr Sociable (24 points)
2nd place: EJ25 LGT (22 points)
3rd place: Krautastic (14 points)
4th place: Another Nord (10 points)
5th place: Ryu Haneda (9 points)
6th place: tie - Perdue and Henryq89 (6 points)

And that wraps up two weeks... more tracks to come soon! BE READY FOR MONDAY AT 8PM!

Current Competition Results:
1st place: Mr Sociable (26 points)
2nd place: EJ25 LGT (24 points)
3rd place: Krautastic (16 points)
4th place: tie - Another Nord and Zues Marine - 12 points
5th place: Ryu Haneda (11 points)
6th place: tie - Perdue and Henryq89 (8 points)

NOTE: These results do not take into account tonight's race at Tsukuba Circuit. Results to come later in the week. By the way, there are TWO TRACKS LEFT TO RACE: Road Atlanta and Maple Valley.

That means I have a limited amount of time to come up with prizes for the competition. I'm not giving away too much when I say there will be cars given away. What I won't say is exactly WHICH cars I demonstrated tonight for the competition. Stay tuned for the write-up to see what I brought out! Hehehe...

It was Dan (Krautastic), Matt (EJ25 LGT), and myself. We warmed up on Tsukuba and Sebring before running a rather quick feature on the full Tsukuba Circuit track. In between and after the feature, we had fun drifting.

The Forza 2 week in review!

SL-i.net's Forza racing teams visit Tsukuba Circuit for the weekly romp. We started, however, on Sebring. On staff for attendance: Ryu Haneda, pictured above in a Subaru Legacy GT, in a classic warmup/rivalry race with...

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/sebring2-1.jpg
EJ25 LGT's Chevrolet Corvette Z06. (The car is an absolute beast, and any further tweaking would have resulted in my being pwned by Matt's beatdown-mobile.)

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/sebring3-1.jpg
Also on deck: Krautastic's Mercedes Benz CLK 55 AMG.

Amazingly enough, the real fun wasn't had in this week's feature, so we'll knock that out of the way quick:

FEATURE - Tsukuba Circuit (10 laps)
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/tsukubafeature1-1.jpg
Quite frankly one of the FASTEST features ever run. Matt celebrates the short track voyage with a yellow Subaru paint job. This would just about be the best view I got of him on lap 1 - as he ran off with first place for the entire race. I pounded my foot into the gas pedal to give chase...

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/tsukubafeature2-1.jpg
but ultimately Krautastic's Lotus Elise gave me the business coming down the track at the start/finish straight. Remember racing fans: don't come flying into a turn too hot, otherwise your goose WILL be cooked.

Dan and I battled for a few laps before it was done. Last place doesn't feel too bad when it's third place, and hey, I'm not supposed to win the series anyway!

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/tsukubafeature3-1.jpg
Congrats once again to the 22b Subaru Racing Team as EJ25 LGT takes the Tsukuba Circuit win.

And last, but certainly not least:
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/02/tsukubapost7-1.jpg
EJ25 LGT's Corvette says "There's no replacement for displacement." One healthy argument for high-output N/A cars!

The feature put up the following points:

1st place: EJ25 LGT (10 points)
2nd place: Krautastic (7 points)
3rd place: Ryu Haneda (5 ponts)

DNS racers for this week were:
Mr Sociable
Another Nord
Zues Marine
Perdue
Henryq89

Each scored 1 point apiece.

So, here are the current standings:

1st place: EJ25 LGT (34 points)
2nd place: Mr Sociable (27 points)
3rd place: Krautastic (23 points)
4th place: Ryu Haneda (16 points)
5th place: tie - Another Nord and Zues Marine (13 points)
6th place: tie - Perdue and Henryq89 (9 points)

Road Atlanta and Maple Valley are next up. Points this week made Mr Sociable and EJ25 LGT switch places. Krautastic extended a points lead away from Another Nord and Zues Marine, and I jumped into 4th place. With only two races left in this first season of competition, I may have to make things interesting with the next race.

See you this Monday at 8pm. Stay tuned... (no pun intended)

The next to last race week was quick, intense, and painful. (My car lost at least 2 to 3 pieces of body armor alone during the feature.)

A QUICK PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
===================================

Last week's feature was both epic and bloody. I personally want to take a moment to publicly apologize to Mr Sociable, since that racer's efforts to push ahead were nothing short of heroic.

I usually enjoy every single race we have, and even last week's warmups were cool. But last week I drove a little too much like an intimidator.

Even though he was a professional racer in how he handled his fourth place finish, I was not pleased with the fact that I had contact with Mr Sociable's car twice in the race. Don't get me wrong, I'm not ticked off or anything. But it is my personal opinion that I could have been a more careful or more professional racer on the track.

My apologies for the lack of feature coverage tonight. HOWEVER, I hope you stick around for tonight's event, as it will be worth it.

Looking forward to tonight...
-Ryu

*suspense!*

Great season guys! I'm cooking up some ideas for part 2, but definitely need to get a drift session in soon. I picked up a sweet Rockstar painted S13 on the auction house, dropped the weight, threw some suspension on, 130hp more, and a rear diff. This thing is very fun to drift. Just enough power to get in trouble, but the softer suspension and length makes for a more stable drifter.

Unofficial results!

Last race was Road Atlanta:

1st place: EJ25 LGT (10 points)
2nd place: Mr Sociable (7 points)
3rd place: Krautastic (5 points)
4th place: Ryu Haneda (3 points - Hey, someone's gotta make last place look good  )

So, the final points spread is as follows:
1st place: EJ25 LGT, with a grand total of 54 points
2nd place: Mr Sociable, with a grand total of 39 points
3rd place: Krautastic, with a grand total of 35 points
4th place: TIE! Another Nord and Ryu Haneda, 19 points each
5th place: Zues Marine, with a grand total of 15 ponts
6th place: TIE! Perdue91W and StreetSI, 11 points

CONFIRMED! 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be contacted later this week via PM. Up for grabs are no less than 7 prize cars, some of which you've already seen at points in the competition.

Pics to come, and maybe something extra as well, depends on how busy I am this week. More Forza 2 shennanigans will continue next Monday, as long as folks want to keep meeting! After the prizes are given away, I'm possibly going to get a little more into drifting and fun driving.

Later! And of course, well-deserved congratulations to EJ25 LGT, the series champ of SL-i.net's first ever Forza 2 Invitational!

I drove the S13 stock and realized very quickly why this its always made into drift cars. So I did only a few mods (race exhaust/intake, sport cams, sway bars, suspension, clutch, flywheel, weight reduction) and dang! This thing is such a blast to drift. It's just long enough to not get into trouble too fast. Power level is good. I have the tires over inflated at 40psi, and it wants to drift all the time. At 30psi, it takes a little effort to get it going. Definitely recommend building one if you want a drifter.

Mr. Sociable (Dan) hot on my tail into the front straight. He ended up passing me on the straight. Love this shot :smt007

http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/8655/d3201dcd21a44b4da0ca9a0.jpg A couple laps later and we had caught up to Ryu and Nord, as you can tell, there was quite a bit of bumping going on in the race. Dan's reeling them in while the other Dan is trying to keep up...

Here's when things went totally wrong. Dan and I are both trying as hard as we can to secure 2nd place in the championship. Maybe even first. We had rallied back after each being forced off the track at one point in the race. This is about the 7th lap (out of 10). Running order is Dan, Ryu, Me, and Nord. Ryu goes off track while Dan swings wide, dips a tire in the grass and gets a little loose. This allows me the chance to make a big gain...

We take the next corner two wide, trying to give eachother space.

http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/2752/df17e773af004a01bef028b.jpg
Dan steers in on the normal racing line on the next corner, but I have the inside lane already with no room to go anywhere.

http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/4569/2d5936e23f6847fcb83044a.jpg
Forced to the grass I hit the rumble strips which sends my front end up off the ground which means I'm no longer steering.

http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/184/90ad3317baef41e79e0de3d.jpg
Then it's inevitable. We connect...

Then we raced around in different stock cars, seeing what spec racing would be like. We found a few that were fun, a few that sucked, but we REALLY enjoyed the Saleen S281. It's a car that can spin the tires in a turn, even stock, but is very controllable in a slide. I think if people started pushing these you'd see a little tail sliding action. I built up a spec racer (sport everything except stock transmission, full race weight reduction, and race tires) I also played around with tires and wheels and this comes out as a B 700 car.

Then sports upgrades on all suspension, clutch, etc... Keep your transmission stock. Go as wide as your tires can go, race tires, with the first (best) set of tires, The wheels are the second to last manufacturer. And I think they are two sizes taller.

Essentially, this leaves the car with only tire pressures as adjustable. I found that adjusting these lower helps correct the tail happiness but also makes the car have less initial steer in.

Oh and Dan, no worries. Just wanted to show too that it was an accident that I bumped you off. I really couldn't steer as soon as I hit the rumble strips.

check again when you can.

I have all engine stock except for Sport Intercooler. All Sport suspension mods. Max tire width, Avon Race tires, 20" Yokohama TC II wheels. I get a Performance Index of A788. :smt017

EDIT: This setup seems to run well...

All stock Engine parts except for Sport intercooler.
All suspension parts are Sport Upgrades except for stock transmission, and race weight reduction.
GoodYear race tires at max width, stock rims at stock diameter.
All stock aero.

Oops. Apparently I never touched the tires. So updated is A825. I also upgraded to a sport supercharger. Max size wheels.

I will only make one suggestion. Because of how much HP was added, I think it would drive better with Race Class brakes. I have found that corners on the end of long straights are hard to slow down for with only upgraded pads and rotors.

I vote for a higher end spec series, a Lambo/Ferrari/Aston/NSX or something along those lines. With all the non-adjustable upgrades (except power, where we could only use an exhaust) it shouldn't be that much higher than that Saleen, and they're more fun/challenging to drive IME.

I'll toy around with a few cars when I get back to MT.

The S281 in that setup is fun to drive, but you can still get in trouble with it if you don't take the corner correctly. Its much more of a drivers car now than it was stock.

The Ferrari is an idea that we toyed with. It was a fun race, but we wanted to try and find something that drove similar to that but didn't break the bank. We know not every one has a ton of Forza credits to blow on a spec race car. The Saleen is much more affordable than the Ferrari's we looked at and why we were leaning that way.

Fair enough on the price standpoint.

How about a spec 911 series with one of the cheaper models? I'm hankering for some euro goodness as of late if you can't tell. I'll still gladly do the Mustang series though.

I have been infected with the rear wheel drive bug.

Wow.

I got to drive a stock Saleen tonight alongside Matt, and it is a great piece of work. Looking forward to seeing what kind of racing a Saleen series brings out.

One more thing... I'm seriously in need of cash. I'd better get crackin' on some computer races for some cash. it's like Forza Motorsport 2 is my sponsor... haha!

Welcome...

The format for the competition which just ended was about 6 to 8 races, one race a week, where we ran a feature for 10 laps and had some warmup races beforehand. The prizes were a series of cars that I am gifting out to the first, second, and third place winners on LIVE.

The coolest part about the deal was just the whole atmosphere - we stayed competitive and raced hard, but it was always friendly and funny. I tried racing online on Forza 2 by myself a few months ago, and realized it just wasn't the same as racing with the folks here.

We even experimented a little bit with a spur-of-the-moment drag race competition one day, and some drifting at Tsukuba.

No start date has been set for the next competition, and we are talking about setting up a spec race series next. Sounds like the Mustang Saleen S281 is the choice. Although I will say that I am broke in the game - I need to race some tracks to get the cash for the car and the parts.

Loan? Sounds like a proposition...

I'm not into loans in this economy. Let's talk cars instead. :smt024 What other car are you interested in getting for Forza? I've probably got it.

But honestly, I should probably sharpen my skills on one of the competitions out there. Sheesh, I'm gonna have to catch up to you eventually!

I used to be big on cheating and hacking game values, but that was back in the day when I did a lot of PC gaming and had my old SNES/Dreamcast systems. Nowadays I cheat if it helps me finish a game quicker or if something annoying gets in my way. Sometimes I try to be a good boy and play through, but that only lasted for a little while with Half-Life. (Although I do think I played fair through Opposing Force and Blue Shift...)

I DO NOT mess around with cheating online. I figure it's an easy way to get yourself in trouble or banned.

Sorry for my marked absence. Life has been happening left and right. BUT - now that I am back... let's begin again, shall we?

FIRST order of business will be deciding when the competitions will take place again. The last time I checked in with people about this, there were a mixed bag of responses, so I think instead of just picking a few times to begin the competition, I'll open up the floor to nominations.

What I'm looking for right now is a month - May, June, July, August, or September. I favor the later months myself, but I can understand if people don't want to wait that long.

Nominate what month you think is best, and we'll take a vote on it. More topics to come afterwards.

To warm up the discussion again, I'll pick July. What do you think?

Anybody on for some Forza tonight, or no?

ryu_haneda
05-04-2009, 09:34 PM
Sounds like a no...

But no worries. Biggest question for me is when the next compo is going to be, but so far it seems to be July (for lack of input), probably July through August.

With this much time between now and the next contest, I think I'm going to go on the Forza Motorsport website again and see what's up. Maybe I'll be able to get better prizes this time. Who knows?

Unless anyone else has input about time of next competition, that's probably going to be the time of year.

NEXT DISCUSSION: The car/class type
Last time I checked, we were running Mustangs. Did this stay the same?

I would prefer to run around when school starts...say in August or September as I have a spotty internet connection in the summer months and I'm busier.
