It's been getting really cold here and well, this past weekend my heat didn't work for the first time! All I did was move my heat slider to cold then back to hot and it worked again.

For some stupid reason, I have to do this every time I leave the car parked over night.. I won't get any heat until I move it back and fourth. Now I remember years ago I read a thread regarding something similar to this and I can't remember for the life of me what that topic was about.. just something to do with the heat slider.

Can someone refresh my memory or guide me to the right post?? Thanks!

Tried searching as well..

All the slider control does is manually open/close a flap that diverts hot air from the coolant exchange system. So it sounds like it's sticking somewhere down under the dash, and isn't related to your interior controls.

Thanks Huffer.. I will disassemble this weekend and see what I can come up with !

My car warms up real nicely.. I'm thinking maybe it's my heater core (I think that's what it's called) that could be heading on it's way out.. hmm

haha.. nice!

Huffer, I just realized something.. if the slider is mechanical and all it does is open a flap.. then how would it get stuck if I park the car over night, then start it in the morning and no heat.. so really, I've never touched it since I park! How would that effect it ?

I have no idea. The only way it would close is if the flap itself moves, which would require the cable to be pulled to the cold side...

It's a really simple mechanism that you can trace the cable under the passenger side dash. It's a black cable with a twisted wire core.. example pic here:

(I stole the pic from an HVAC removal thread)

Oh nice.. I'm going to take it apart on Saturday and see what I can figure out.. I'll keep updating this thread with what I find.

Thanks Huffer.. as always ;)
