Has anyone given the dealer their vin and told their cars history? The dealer it was originally sold to the first owner and so on?

Mine was originally sold in wv then made it's way to Florida, Tampa area. I bought it and brought it back home to the Midwest where it was built. However I knew the original owner and where it was first sold but can't remember right now and was wondering who knows about theirs?

Email Subaru America - I did and they gave me all the records they had on file. Only other way is to go to the dealer, and do a carfax.

You can find a lot of history on CARFAX too. The original owner of my Legacy bought it in Chicago and then traded it in at a Toyota dealership. The dealership then sold it off to a different used car dealer, and then we bought it.

i bought my car from the local subaru dealership it was the owners personal 'dealer' car. my car has no reported mileage until 98,000 miles. and im the first owner :lol:

Carfax is BS, the only if you get from them is what was reported to insurance company (accidents). So if you get in an accident and it wasn't bad and you fixed it yourself it would never end up on carfax.

Oh funny story too, when I bought my 97 GT back in 2000 the carfax report came back CLEAN. 3 years after I get hit be some foreign (Russian) lady and when I reported it to my insurance company I was under investigation because of a previous accident...... Ok so how did my insurance company know of an accident about the car but carfax didn't? Yea thanks carfax!

Same with your dealer, only when you have a suby dealer work on your car that it will be in service records through Subaru. If you bring it to some hole in the wall it won't show up.

Carfax isn't total BS - it does tell you where the car was registered, which means you can contact those local DMV/BMV's and get insurance details, then contact the insurance companies to get photos of insurance writeoffs/damage.

I've done it before when I was looking at buying a "salvaged" vehicle.

It is BS, did you not read my last post?

Alright then, take a carfax report with a grain of salt, just like info you get from forums, It is NOT 100%.

I just said it wasn't TOTAL BS. I understand it's not 100% reliable, I'm not debating that with you. But to call it complete BS is an exaggeration.

My brother bought a 95 Subaru Impreza from a lady that probably put 250,000 of the 275,000 miles on it when he bought it, and he went to the local Subie dealer and got the records from them. It was practically a book because she had all the maintenance done there including all the oil changes and that sort of stuff. He had only gotten the last 2-3 years and that was probably 25 pages at least if not more. :shock: That car was pretty well-known at that dealer.

My buddy bought a galant vr-4 that had all the built papers with it to go with the claimed internal mods and that was a good addition...
