well if the tire rack is right the stock tire on the L is 185/70-14 and the new sized tire the speedo would read 1.7% too slow

because the stock wheels came with no wheel covers I will just keep them instead of buying wrx wheels for the winter.

I started putting some money away for summer tires the stock tires on a 95 are something like 185/70-14 I think... is it too much to try and fit the same size tire above? I did not realize how low the non OB models sit..

but then on the tire size calculator everything seems almost the same as stock and from what it says only will read about 1 mph slower then the stock tire.

1.7% is a tiny difference, you will be fine as far as the speedometer goes. People upgrade the L to 205/55/16 (which is even more diameter than 215/45/17) all the time and they're fine.

one other question is the 1.7% difference does that effect how the car accelerates? I know when I had the 1.8L impreza larger tires made the car that much slower.

You won't notice it. Gosh going from 14" to 17" it'll feel like a totally different car as far as everything else is concerned though - braking, handling, ride...

I actually have the same car as you and I'm running a 225/45/17 on 08' WRX wheels. I couldn't be more pleased.

I have 15's :smt022 but the way I drive you can see road markings on the sidewalls.. I hate turning hard with all that roll..

I'm debating getting the wheels first or doing the suspension first.

15s aren't totally hopeless. You just need to find a tire that has a stiff sidewall and bump up the tire pressures.

heh I remember having a set of kumho's on my impreza anyways long story short (my fault) I filled the tire up to the pressure rating on the driver's door.. later did i know after a blow out on the road what the door said it was my max pressure for that tire.

I'm not putting any high end tire on these stock wheels I think in June I'm going to order some snow tires to have ready and keep the tires on hand and see if I can find a decent price for a set of Wrx wheels without tires.

but I feel I should do my struts first over doing tires and have still a sloppy feeling car.

I don't know if I will/should upgrade the springs.

yikes I had a scary thing happen on the highway this morning..

a empty white bucket blew over from the other side of the highway over the jersey barrier and right into my path in the 3 lane, I was doing about 80 I got on the brakes and tried to get into the middle lane.. man.. within a split second I felt the ass end of the car stepping out.. I corrected it without issue but man you could hear it was running on the very outer part of the right side tires.

Something I just thought of with sticker tires the car should hold firmer depending on my limit of the stock suspension right?

Yup do it! I run the best performance tires I can get on all the cars that I own because I like good braking and handling performance on all my cars. Yes, I have an aggressive Pirelli extreme summer tire on my Cadillac Fleetwood :)

Tires are what connect you with the road. Never cheap out on those just to achieve something else that has less affect on your performance (like huge rimz). Tires, brakes, suspension - safety first.

for summer tires like these when would be a good time to put the winter tires on?

I really like those tires. I've had them on since April now and I don't have any complaints about them. They handle well, especially on dry pavement. I was driving in seriously heavy down pours 2 weekends ago and I had very minimal hydroplaning, if any at all. The only time I had some was when going through standing water on the road at 50mph. You'd get hydroplaning with any tire with that much water though.

I'll be putting my snow tires on in mid-November some time, that's typically when we start to see snow. Although these tires have a M+S rating on the sidewall, you wouldn't catch me with these tires in either of those situations.

As soon as day time temps start dropping consistently below 50degF. Softer summer compounds harden up around that temp and lose responsiveness, likewise dedicated snow tires get chewed up above 55degF because the heat makes them wear faster.

wow I rotated my tires on Monday and man today it's a little drizzle the road is not covered in rain yet car is tail happy now

Sure do. I had them balanced with the adhesive weights inside the wheel though.
