hey all, Im new to the site and if you wanna check my ride out you can see it at http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2917551
But ya, about my fuel problem. I seem to be running very rich, when i start the car and have it idle, i smell a lot, and i mean A LOT of fuel, as if i was at a gas station with the pump going. I have an AFR gauge and the thing is going bonkers when im driving and when its at idle it goes from mid lean to mid rich. I have new O2 sensors, knock sensor, spark plugs and wires, fuel filter, etc. I checked the timing at 700 rpms and it sits at 20 degrees like it should, so the timing isnt off, and I checked the blet for broken teeth and they are fine as well. I was thinking it could be a broken fuel injector or a bad fuel pump but im not getting any CELs for those, anyone have any ideas?

the SRI + the new exhaust is causing it. the MAF has issues with non stock intakes under 2K rpm but mainly @ WOT, i know mine was running rich @ idle just with the snorkel delete, i modified the snorkel now it doesn't run rich @ idle

ew.....I lost the snorkel at my exs place when she owned the car, but i dont really wanna downgrade......hm....I had a buddy of mine tell me that there might be too much back pressure from the exhaust that could be causing the richness, atm its borla headers, magnaflow hi-flow cat and muffler, all attached to a custom mandrel bent 2 1/2 in pipe. the other thing he mentioned was it could be a program error on the ECU, so i might pick up a piggy-back to adjust. any other ideas what it could be or does that pretty much sum it up? lol
If your AFR gauge is hooked up to the O2 sensor, not a wideband sensor, it's not going to provide you useful information. You're going to get the lean-rich back and forth because the O2 sensor is not sensitive enough to provide an instant reading - it's more of a general reading for the ECU.
What kind of gas mileage are you getting?

haha well that explains a lot, but not the smell of gas. hm....
as for mileage, i never really looked into how many mi/gal but i know i can go roughly 350-400 miles on the highway before having to refill, maybe half that in the city.
Check the condition of your fuel lines and connections. Perhaps check for exhaust leaks too - our cars tend to run a little rich - enough that it can smell a little like gas in the exhaust.

hm.... thanks for the advice, but im noticing something that just started today, the engine hesitates at acceleration after being on for a few minutes, almost to a full stall. But after a 5 mins go by it stops. gah, got to love an old engine HAHA!

its the intake plain and simple, it causes u to run rich, get an apexi safc and tune it

i'll look into picking that up. But i had a buddy of mine take a look at the fuel system to check for problems, turns out i have a bad FPR, got to go replace that when i get the chance.

well if it is a bad fpr that should help u some bu it will still run rich when u accelerate up untill about 2000-2500 rpm
