my guess is the tourqe converter its a 4eat

Torque converter is my initial reacting, but the fact it only happens on cold days is kind of wierd, also that it is only reverse is interesting. Once you are into reverse can you idle? Does it depend whether the car is warmed up or anytime it is under 10 degrees?

it is only in reverse it will idle fine in nutral, park or first gear
once its warmed up its ok its when its cold out and i just start it and try to back up it stalls out and kills the only way i can reverse, when it acts up, is to gas it backwards and then to quick switch it to drive before it kills
but yea once its warmed up its ok
its almost exactly what happened when i blew my HG but its only in reverse and only when the engines cold and when its cold outside

Ill look around today to see if I can find any info... Back into parking spaces? the car will be warm by the time you park.

slector switch is what tell the TCU what gear its in. it sits on the outside of the tranny where the shifter cable connects to the transmission
