Hey,

I have a Subaru LEgacy GT 2.5 with the EJ25 engine (96' BD).

Ever since purchasing, this car has been a total nightmare. Transmission went out the next month and then for over 6 months mechanics have been trying to dick me for money..etc

ANYWAY: the problem I've been having is the temp guages goes up and backto medium, 75%, 95%, 60% and such.

Yesterday, I've discovered I had a new smell in the engine bay--that of burning rubber and white smoke appearing in the back of the engine bay. To my dismay I'm pissed off, because this subaru is just having issues after issues after issues.

Anyway, today after closer inspection of my belts..I found out on the pulleys which the belts go over actually is frozen/siezed/not moving with belt. The temp guage is still on the fritz.

Heres a picture and soon I will edit of a video with it.. I'm hoping one of you can realy shine light onto this so I can make a battle plan on what to do with it!

That loks like the tensioner. It adds tension to the A/C belt. Remove your belt until you can get another tensioner and you should be OK. Replace it before Springs over.

Remove my belt? What do you mean remove my belt?

Hmm, I think the spring went though...just cuasting the belt to look like it was on the waterpump...

Also,

I forgot to mention leaking coolant from the exhuast manifold and white smoke with a burning rubber smell.

I'm guessing leaking headgasket, would this be right?

1st loosen and remove the Alternator belt (1st/front belt) then loosen and remove your A/C belt (The one that's squeeling and burning) and the noise and smoke will go away. If you don't need your A/C, then this is a temporary fix to get you by until you can get your car fully repaired.

Last that I checked (I'll check again) that belt doesn't control your waterpump... Then again, I have a 97 2.2 liter L.

If this isn't that much of an emergency, Then purchase another pulley/tensioner and belt, then install (Of course after removing the belts).

as far as i know the water pump has always behind the timing belt cover on all boxer motors from subaru
