Hella Help!

I am installing my Hella Supertones and I need some help with the placement of the relay. I have no idea where to put it so it will be safe and I am wondering where you all have placed it in your cars.

for my driving lights I put the relay in the top right corner of the engine bay, there is a little dip with lots of room to put tons of stuff

I just used the stock relay. Plugged the black female ends that unplugged off the stock horns onto the hellas and grounded the other male end on each horn.

I just Zip tied the relay to that thick wire in the drivers side front of the engine compartment. The signal wire from the stock horn was the shortest in the cluster so that's as high as it can go without splicing more wire to lengthen. I noticed there was a significant amount of wire behind the metal so decided not to tap a screw in the side wall. Simple and safe :smt023

I had mine mounted in a similar position before the swap, never had an issue. If you want it to be a bit neater you can put it up inside the fender.

Thanks for the info. Turns out when I tried to wire them with the relay I did something wrong and I wasn't getting a very loud sound out of them, so I went back to the OEM wire and they sound great and it turns out there isn't that much of a difference.

I am not using the relay so I am wondering where a good ground would be?

Any bolt would work, I think I have it just running right to one of the bolts at the top of the radiator support.

any where metal on the car will work as a ground

If you are grounding the horns (forgot if the relay needs a ground or not) This is where I did it (the yellow sleeved). I was told that the shorter the ground wire the better, which I know applies for car speakers and amplifiers.

I was told over there at NASIOC that it is a bad idea to ground the horns to them selves.

NASIOC is full of great ideas :razz: I grounded mine even shorter (straight back to the bolt on the back of the supertone) and it works great. I think it only matters if the system is going to be on for a prolonged period of time; which horns really arent...especially supertones.

Oh and I hope you didn't cut the OEM plug, a spade connector fits in there just fine.
