Trailer Hitch

I was thinking of taking off my OEM trailer hitch from my Outback since I never use it and also can get my bike inside my wagon with ease. Something then came up in my head before I started pulling it off: Does the hitch help with the bumper(since its a big long piece of steel running parallel to the bumper) or does it stop the bumper from doing its job which is taking the force and the weight of the rear end crash? If thats the case, is it worth it to take the hitch off?

Neither, really... it's only anchored to your bumper beam and the additional stopping force is probably negligible.

If you take it off, you will realize some weight savings.

the trailer hitch bolts directly to your factory tow hooks. 3 bolts and your done.

If you don't use the hitch get rid of the extra weight.

Nope. Never. I visit on weekends, but would never drift there or "populated" streets. Empty un-plowed parking lots are my specialty :smt023
