Hey guys,

The other week a friend of mine somehow got his left foot stuck up under the cable for the heater (the temperature one) long story short, the cable will not work.

I cant really see exactly what is going on in the center of the car, the cable runs next to the fan, to a white lever, then there is a small metal rod that connects to another white plastic lever. Looks like it HAD a spring which would return it to the HOT position when you let the cable go in (right to heat)

Can anyone confirm if there was a spring down there? I can still just leave it on heat after spinning it by hand, and I really dont feel like taking my heater/fan out during winter only to find out that I was wrong and its something else broken...

thx

I don't think there is a spring if I remember correctly. Rather, the temperature is a cable much like your throttle cable - the lever just pulls on it.

well, my problem is i can pull the cable to cold, and that works fine, but when I slide it right all the way, it is only actually is moving the heater to about 1/4 heat.

Checked the cable (unhooked it at the bottom) and it works fine from up top, as well as the vent opens/closes easily by hand... what am I missing here if there is no spring? :-?

I'd take the HVAC unit out of the center console (remove all the trim around it and let it sit free), and see what happens with the cable when you move the lever.

Oh, and ban long-footed friends from the front seat.

It's been a few years since I took the HVAC unit out but I think there is something that anchors down the hot/cold cable housing so you get full motion of the cable inside the housing. Yes, remove the control unit and see what's going on.

If you can find the HVAC light replacement article on LegacyGT.com, it has pictures of the cable as the cable needs to be disconnected to work on the lights.

I don't remember any kind of spring. I just remember some anchors of some kind at each end of the cable.
