View Full Version : header rattling...

and right now, my dad isn't willing to foot the bill to get borla...

so, I want to get rid of that rattle. The snorkusectomy and the high flow cat have added some good exhaust note (a freind even asked if I had a V6, LOL) but I'd like to get rid of the rattle because its annoying.

The rattle is coming from one of the "heat shields" that's wrapped around the header piping. It's coming loose, and I'd just like to get it tight again...

Can I use some of that exhaust filler stuff? If so, what would anybody reccomend? I'm just trying to get rid of the noise, there's no leak.

Thanks in advance.

I'll get pics tomorrow for reference.

Mine rattles too, 1000 and 2500-3000 rpm

I tightened up the clamps, but they just came loose again. I also tried to shove a piece of metal between the shield and header to stop it from rattling, but it fell out.

My next step is to
A) pull out the reciprocating saw and cut those bastard shields off or
B) drill a hole in the end of the shield, and put a small bolt into it (pushing the heat shield against one side of the header and the bolt against the other)

I was installing a new cat at the time.

I used a 4" cut off disk (grinder tool) and man power!!!!

I bought some of that metal exhaust hole fixer stuff, and I hope to tie it down, molding the high temp strips of metal from heatshield to heatshield.

Sha_Zapple: yep, that's the RPM range all right.

I took a video of idle---->rev and man did it sound awful.

I'll post it up when I have time to process the video.

the little kit thing I got was 2 bucks.

I don't have a metal cutting device that would be okay.

Besides, I want this problem to keep persisting until I get Borla

my header cracked. UGH! now i have to rip it off, weld it, put it back on.

i'll take off the heat shields and maybe take a vid of just headers, i wonder if the 2.5 will sound different than bella's?

I need more cowbell!!! LOL!!
I think drilling a hole and riveting with steel rivets would suffice! :D

lol... you guys...

my subie was the 4th or 5th one i've done it to.
you dont need "a metal cutting device" as mark so aptly put it, all you need is a couple prybars. i used a 24" and an 18"

slip the bar under the shield and pull them lil' bastards off.

all the one's i've done look like huffer's and i havent used power tools once.

job is a little boring, really, since you dont need power tools... you can use some if it makes you feel better though. :-D

It was a 5min job with the saw-zall. I had one, so didn't need to sweat.
