I have a 2005 legacy gt that idles rough in gear. I have cleaned tb checked vacuum lines changed plugs. the dealer flashed the ecu and installed update. The car has stalled on my girlfriend a couple of times. I also gets a rough surge around 2000 rpms sometimes. This car is all stock and just out of warrenty.

Idles rough in gear? Is it auto or manual?

I'm guessing a dirty Idle Air Control valve or an incorrectly calibrated Throttle Position Sensor.

its an automatic. I don't think thats it because it started all at once and when i cleaned the tb that should have got the iac. I've worked in a garage most of my life. None of the sensors test out of range. I don't no a lot about turbos but from what I have read I think I might have b.o.v. sticking I just don't know enough about these cars to make that call.

check the gasket on the recirc valve. also check the vacuum line the goes from the factory recirc(bov) to the back of the intake manifold. sometimes they like to wiggle themselves loose. but id say you deff have a air leak on the intake manifold somewhere. this has happend on both wrx's ive owned. and they are pretty much the same setup minus the plastic intake manifold on your car.
i just noticed that you said it happend when your in gear.. check the tps to see if the screws have come loose and it moved a lil.. if all else fails disconnect the battery and press the brakes till your milage goes away. then reconnect and start.. that method worked on my dads 05 mustang.
