I'm going to swap my EJ22 with 250+k for a EJ25D this spring or summer. I never done a engine swap before and I want to do it myself. Anyone who knows something about it maybe you can shoot me some tips. Also what I would need to replace the 2.2 with a 2.5 like ECU etc.

it would be in a better interest to get a engine and full uncut harness with ECU so you just take yours out and replace everything.. or buy a GT wrecked from rear preferably and swap everything.. other then that its alot easier then most might think..

Was thinking of this myself, if I dont go FI :smt029

From NASIOC

Same injectors, they run fine. Maf reads airflow, displacement doesn't matter. I have tons of 2.5>2.2 swaps running around, they all run great with the ECU that was in the car. These aren't nearly as complex as a wrx.

Cool, I just want to put a 2.5 in for now. I'll do FI down the road when I can afford it.

:smt023 Good Idea.

Only thing...Good luck trying to find a low mileage one for cheap. On the bright side, you won't need to make many trips to the boneyard if you do find 1. You'll have everything at your disposal: Entire drivetrain/Suspension/fuel pump/Interior and other odds and ends.

I had one of those, but I doubt I'll need it. I just want this to go smooth.

My buddies swapped an ej22 into a impreza with a ej18. ej18 ecu runs a ej22 with ease .. I'v run my ej25d with a ej22 ecu and it fired up no problem. Not sure about A/C though since that was the first thing to go.

Also depending on the ej22 you have you may need a new exhaust manifold . single to dual port..

Good luck

jey went the opposite way IIRC, EJ25D to EJ22. He'll know what you need/don't need most likely.

Actually I went EJ22 -> EJ25 also, but stayed with SOHC, and I threw in an EJ257 shortblock since I was going FI. I was under the impression that there is more wiring involved with a DOHC conversion. Also take a look at the idle controller - the 6-pin plunger type is very different from the 4-pin stepper motor.
