I have a 2001 Legacy GT and I went to start it this afternoon. It was about 20ºF so its not like it was abnormally cold, but it cranked and cranked forever so I let go of the key for a few seconds to give the battery a break. When I went to crank it again it started right up, revved to about 1,750 rpm, and immediately stalled. After the stall it starts right up and runs fine. This is the second time this has happened. Does anyone know what could be wrong?

Lack of spark, bad gas, battery starting to fail...all possibilities.

Try some injector cleaner in the tank, like Seafoam or Chevron Techron.

i put some injector cleaner in not too long ago, but Ill give it another go. I just got the battery checked and its at like 75%. Here are some things it could be:

spark plugs, fuel filter/ pump, alternator, and bad gas like u said, but its happened before on another tank..

any other suggestions?

I'd check for vacuum leaks too. A cracked or split hose, even a loose clamp.

Mine used to do this. I removed the connector for the crank and cam sensors and put them back on and that seemed to clear it up. Unfortunitly i can not say 100% as this was the cause as it was so hit and miss when it happened i coulf never really diagnose.

alright ill give that a shot once i can in a few weeks. My CEL was on for a seemingly different reason, the code was catalyst deficiency. Keep in mind I literally JUST replaced the catalytic converter myself because of an earlier CEL issue. The mechanic said the CEL code could be anything from the cat to spark plugs to the fuel filter. Either way I have no tools with me at college so it will need to wait.

Thank you all

That should have been replaced first, its much cheaper, usually needs to be replaced when the cat goes bad, and 95% of the time the reason whay you get a bad cat code.
