I've searched and read through the posts.

I've got some pretty decent clarion 6x9's sitting here that I'd like to put in the rear window deck. I know 6.5s are stock. Has anyone gone to 6x9's and if so, do you have pics of your install?

Will the rear deck hold up structurally if I do some cutting to install the bigger speakers? Will it hold the weight of the 6x9s? The Clarions I'm looking to put in will certainly weigh more than the stockers.

Just looking for a little insight before I commit to putting these in.

I know it would be easiest to just go 6.5, but I've got these sitting here and they are pretty good speakers.

I would never recommend using a 6x9 or oval sized cone. It's not aurally competent. It's a compromise in the tone and overall quality of the sound (I'm a sound tech part time and ovals are one of the worst inventions in the audio field).

Now that I'm off my soapbox, you will have to do a lot of cutting to make the 6x9 fit if you want it to be sitting flush with the rear parcel tray. You'll need to cut the structural metal that supports the stock speaker, but that's about it.

Once the opening is large enough for the speaker to sit down in, you just have to drill or use self-tapping screws to mount the speaker.

Then wire it up, test, and reinstall the rear deck and rear seats.

Thanks for the input. It's definitely something to consider!

I will have to look at the rear deck area and see if I do, in fact, want to pursue this then. I may just leave the stockers for now and do the amp/subs install.

The 6x9s I just happen to have on hand, and they aren't a cheap set, so I thought I'd try and use them.

So many decisions.

Thanks!

Well just remember, once you cut a bigger hole, you can't put a smaller speaker back in. Then you'd be stuck with 6x9s all the time. (blargh) :smt005

or you can only mount them with 2 bolt but you would need to drill for them
the rear deck give support for the rear end but i dont think it would weaking it any to oval the holes

You could go with the tacky 6x9 boxes on the rear deck instead. If you are going to cut and mount, make sure the speakers magnets and frames will clear everything and good luck.

Ok. I did this exact install with some pioneer 450 watt 6X9's. It is for sure sompthing I'd recomend if you want a reeely loud stereo. I had to trace the shape onto the metal of the rear deck and cut it out. But after that was done and I boltid it down it is no problem. Even the covor over the rear deck fits and looks stock. And I have a ported box for a 15" sub that fits in between them in the trunk. I'm sorry I cannot post any pics, but if you have further questions p.m. Me. And it relly sounds great

So. Did you install them?

If no, then maybe you could act quick and recoup some money by putting them on classifieds and then work towards getting a proper front soundstage in.

If yes, Then forget everything and Enjoy the Sound man!
