could you explan a little more. "purging the egr overflow canister" doesnt make sence to me. then you show a pvc valve

^yeah that's the power steering resevoir....

EGR is Exhaust Gas Recirculation, which sends exhaust gases that are still rich with fuel back into the intake to be fully burnt. It is done to help w/emissions but actually hurts the efficiency of the engine since you are reintroducing hot gasses that are not as rich w/ oxygen.

It helps to know what the purpose of things are before you start worrying if they're doing their job or not.

what does it do?

and how do i do it?

The Bottom Line
The EGR valve helps your car more efficiently and completely burn fuel by recirculating a portion of your exhaust and running it through the combustion process again. This results in a cooler, more complete burn of the fuel which decreases you car's noxious emissions by prohibiting the formation of some harmful gases.

Pros * The EGR valve is vital to your car's emission controls.
Cons * When the EGR valve goes bad, it must be replaced.

Description
* EGR Valve = Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve.
* The EGR valve controls formation of noxious emissions.
* Rough idle and poor acceleration can be caused by a faulty EGR valve.

Guide Review - EGR Valve
The EGR valve, or Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve, is a vacuum controlled valve which allows a specific amount of your exhaust back into the intake manifold. This exhaust mixes with the intake air and actually cools the combustion process. Cooler is always better inside your engine. The exhaust your EGR valve recirculates also prevents the formation of Nitrogen related gases. These are referred to as NOX emissions, and are a common cause for failing emissions testing. Unfortunately, your EGR valve can get stuck, causing NOX gases to build up. You'll know if your EGR valve is stuck or malfunctioning because your car will experience symptoms like rough idle and bucking on acceleration.

^^well it sounds like if you have a 2.2 you have no EGR and nothing to worry about.

still a little confused about the reason for this thread....

thank you huffer.

the reason for this thread is to learn about the EGR... which i didnt know i didnt have... as you pointed out many times..

I'm simply going off the thread title, no need to be a dick. I realize your hormones are probably raging but try and keep them under control.

I think what Zues is talking about is the charcoal canister that sits by the passenger headlight and ABS unit. The older 2nd gens have them.

Although mine seems to lack any sort of mount... it just kinda sits there.
