popping noise at 20+ mph after diy install

Hi all,

I just got done replacing my passenger side halfshaft, balljoint and also the tie rod boot on my 91 legacy. All of the installs went great, but when I did my test drive around the block I now hear a periodic popping noise from the front right tire that was not there before... It does not seem to happen at lower speeds, but if I start to give the engine some gas, it starts popping. The frequency seems to be a function of the speed of the car.

I did unfortunately probably screw up the alignment of the car during the install process. Both the Camber and the adjustment on the tie rod are probably off.

Any ideas?

I doubt the alignment is to blame.

Most likely you messed up the clips holding the CV boot. This happend to me. There was no signs of popping but in the end the splines ground themselves down to a smooth finish :-(

Re-and-re the halfshafts again. You'll probably find the issue.

Turns out the halfshaft was just bad. It was a re-man. Replaced it with a new one and all is now good.
