96 Legacy 2.2 Vibrator!

Well i finally gave in to my girls cry's of her car vibrating more than her vibrator, so i took it for a test drive. Turns out when the car is getting up to temperature or at temperature and your cruising and come to a full stop you experience a massive vibration through out the entire vehicle. Most if it is transferred into the steering wheel, but the rest of the car is showing signs of it to. However while experimenting i have discovered that if i turn the steering wheel about a turn and a half in either direction while the vehicle is stopped in drive. The vibration by some sort of miracle disappears. So i jacked the car up and got underneath it. I checked all the mounts and everything seems fine. Is there something i am missing here? :smt017 Hope you guys cans help me out before my ears start to bleed!

So, 2.2, automatic (you said drive)...?

Does it go away when it's in neutral? If you pull the parking brake while it's in drive (stopped of course), pop the hood, is the engine shaking like mad transferring to the car? A couple simple tests with the transmission can help rule it out or make it the culprit.

Also, when it is shaking, what are the engine RPM's at?

Definetly need to know what the rpm and speed are when the vibration occurs. If it occurs at a stop, it could possible be motor/ tranny mounts are worn out and shot. If it actually occurs while you are coming to a stop and braking, you could have a warped rotor/ hub. If this is the case, you will likely have the vibration felt in the brake pedal and steering wheel.

I will check out everything you guys said in the morning and get back to you, as far as the vibration it goes away in neutral, and it only happens when you are fully stopped in drive after driving for a while. If i shut the car off and start it back up and put it into drive without going anywhere you still feel the vibration but not nearly as immense as you normally would, on certain occasions you can't even feel it all after just starting the vehicle.

FYI I have the same issue really bad in my 2.5L Outback. When I knock the car in neutral it goes away. RPMs are normal and when you go into neutral they go up a hair and then settle back down. Haven't tried turning the wheel - I'm curious to see if that makes it go away.

something to do with the 4EAT my mom's outback does this from time to time as well, it's like the car is really eager to get going again and is fighting with the motor mounts to jump forwards

Transmission mount, engine mounts. Replace those and do an AT fluid change + LubeGard ATF Protectant, reset the ECU.
It won't go away completely, but it will be somewhat reduced.

You should also look at the spark plugs and fuel filter. A smooth running engine will have less vibration.
