can i run my car with sti pistons/rods/crank without it being turbo charged, and im talking no other mods besides exhaust, just take a stock ej25d, assemble it with sti rotating assembly and my stock heads, and then drop it in, will it be able to run and drive until my budget allows for a turbo and EM?
Yes, but due to the lower compression ratio it will be slow (significantly slower than stock NA), especially in the higher rpms.

ok thanks, im considering doing this because eventually i want to have it turboed, and cuurently my engine is not so healthy, it makes all kind of noises, i know some are supposed to be made by subaru like piston slap and the like, but i also have tons of rust under the hood on parts ranging from my power steering to my intake mani, and also i broke two exhaust studs off in the heads, and well the repair job isnt pretty, actually its horrible, so im considering keeping the shortblock and replacing everything else (power steering parts, intake mani, heads, crank pulley, and other parts) or just getting a spare ej25D/ej251 longblock and putting a STI rotating assembly in it, or if i can find a good deal ill consider upping the compression ratio a bit and run it N/A, so what would you guys do?

I would probably just find another running N/A 2.5 and drop it in the place of yours. Then disassemble the original motor and slowly build that the way you want as the funds arise for parts. I was going to do something similar to this and build the motor in the performance machining class at school, but I would rather get a truck.
