View Full Version : Swapped brakes but question

I have had my brakes swapped for over a year now, I believe, and had a question. If I hit the brakes there's pretty good bite, but if I pump it once, I get 10 times the stopping power. I've gotten used to it, but It'd be nice to just be able to hit the brakes once and have that stopping power.
Front brakes are '06 wrx 4-pots, factory pads and rotors, rears are '06 legacy GT vented stock pads and rotors. Also have braided brake lines and ATE brake fluid.

Are you using your stock master cylinder?

Every brake system will do that. The first time you hit the brakes, the brake booster will build force for the master cylinder to apply the force to the brakes. If you pump the brakes once before you really get on them, then all the pressure is already built which causes the bigger bite.

how would you fix that seems like in auto-x or something pumping the breaks would waste alot of stoping time

I not quite sure how you could fix that. I just took a brake class that didn't get into any high performance stuff. Maybe if you somehow engineered a brake booster that kept the force in reserve instead of having to build it every time. Or better yet, somehow get an all electric braking system that either cuts out the entire hydraulic system or just use an electric motor in place of the brake booster that gave you the extra force needed to stop the car easily. :smt024 This is just me rambling about stuff that I don't even know if it will work.

brakes just slow you down in autox anyway :razz:

steal some F1 car brakes and reverse enginer them on to a subaru?
I just wana jack these babies think of how many rabbits and squirls you would save with 15.5" rotors :lol:

You could also get set up with a brake accumulator. Pump builds pressure, and stores it.
