View Full Version : Which wheels would look best on my BE?
Well, I cannot for the life of me decide what wheels to buy for my BE. I probably wont be putting anything on until late March / early April, but if I buy now I wont be able to spend money on other things I don't need
It's dark, dark blue, so I'm thinking gold would look best followed by silver or grey at a close second.
I'm looking for something 17" or 18". I think 17 is probably better since tires are a little cheaper and 18's may look a little big. However, 18" Tarmac III's looked pretty fkng good on blackgtbeauty's car, so it's not out of the question by a long shot.
Width should be 7 to 8 inches. Ideally, a 7.5" rim would be best since a 225 is a better fit compared to a 7" wide rim, but I'd settle for 215's if I had to.
I've narrowed it down to STi BBS's, Prodrive P1's, JDM Legacy B4 wheels, or Tarmac II's (aka P1 knockoffs .5" wider) but I'll take any other wheels into consideration if someone has other ideas.
Here's a shot of my car with WRX stock wheels for reference:

lol. I don't think they'd look all that good on a Legacy. Plus, I've never been a fan of black wheels.

I've dealt with Kevin @ 5mile before. Extremely helpful and outstanding customer service. I've had my eye on those wheels ever since they put those up but after shipping and tires they'd be wayyyyy out of my price range.
That looks like a deal from Fizz Autosports. How much did they quote you shipped for the RCII's?

ADVAN's are beautiful wheels but very pricey, along with Volks.
I voted for the P1's in 18's. They're very strong and well priced wheels and hold a classic design. My second choice would be B4 Legacy wheels.
Enkei RPF1's are also really nice wheels for the price. Extremely light and very strong with a nice simplistic design.

I was one of those 5! WRX wheels in gold would look great, especially with your color combo. The dark blue works well with a gold color, it just sounds good.

Gold on a really dark car is a good combo, and not often seen. Graphite/gunmetal is a safe choice but everyone thinks its "zomgedgy!" now so everyone goes with that color or black when they get aftermarket rims.
Wow, I had no idea there were so many fans of the JDM B4 wheels. It's a shame we didn't get those wheels over here as an OEM option.
The reason I have them powdercoated gold as an option is because I saw a set of them in gold on a GC on NASIOC not too long ago and they looked absolutely gorgeous. I just wish I could find it again.
EDIT: Nevermind, found it

Of course I had to vote for my wheels
Gah. You guys are making this REAL easy
Alright, it's pretty much between the B4 wheels and the Tarmac II's. They're both priced VERY well, they both have sleek, strong designs and they both look good in gold.
Legacy B4 wheels would cost me $600 shipped.
Tarmac II's would be $650 shipped.
Legacy B4's are 17x7
Tarmac II's are 17x7.5
I think I might like the B4's better because they're not as 'flashy' (imo of course) as the Rota's and you rarely see them on BE's in the U.S. I've always had a soft spot for the Tarmac II's though, and the extra .5 inches of width would make me a lot more confident running 225's.
Definitely have not stopped looking for a set of STi BBS or P1's though. If the price is right, I probably wont be hesitant to jump on either one if I do find a set.

I voted for 18" P1's, they're awesome and would look tits in anthracite on your car.
Keep an eye on I-club classifieds, there's a ton of wheels up FS with tires, cheap. I've bought two sets of 18" SSR's in the last 2 months for the wagon, paying prices that you wouldn't believe; it's a fire sale, especially if there's cash on the table.

buddy club p1's would be my first choice. also i would go for some work emotion cr-kai. 17x8 in gunmetal.
Thanks for the input Aaron. I've found a few sets of 18" P1's in gold and a few anthracite in 17". Definitely nice wheels, I'll keep looking. The only downside to them I think is that they weigh almost 24 lbs.
Brandon - didn't DOOK have cr-kai's? I loved those wheels, just didn't have the cash at the time. Thanks for the tip on the Buddy Club P1's. If I remember right, my friend had a set of those on his b18c1 swapped 93 civic hatch

--STi BBS's, Prodrive P1's, JDM Legacy B4 wheels, or Tarmac II's --
I'd try to find some STi BBS. They look awesome on the BE, are EXTREMELY light and strong, and are 7.5" wide. I'm not a big fan of the tarmacII's. Someone has a set of worn bbs inf 5x100 for sale on www.unysoc.org(my (http://www.unysoc.org(my) 'home' site).

i have some wheels if you want them. they are enkie ev5's 18x7.5 45et. they are freshly powder coated black. they made these wheels a few yrs back than stopped. they had rush and curb rash so i got them glass blasted and powder coated. they just started making these wheels again. pm me if your intrested and we will talk.
^^ Thanks for the offer Brandon. I'll get back to you on that. The only thing about 18's is tires are $$$$
Well, I just found these: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1695252
I'm so tempted to get those just because that's a steal at that price considering the tires are included. Unfortunately he's in SoCal so shipping might throw me off.
Someone was also selling UK17's just yesterday for $395! ($395, shipped!) Sold to the first person that responded to it, I was pissed when I found out I was late.
I think I've stepped my first choice to gold STi BBS though. Deadlydave - you're 100% right, they look amazing on BE's. Not to mention they're forged, light and they aren't as likely to lose their value considering their high demand. It's just a matter of finding someone who isn't expecting to get two arms and a leg for them.

Currently running 17x7.5" +48 w/ 225/45 tires
Not sure what I'm going to go to, but would like 8-8.5" with 235s. I'm still exploring options. May just stick with what I still have as they look quite good.
Thanks - Jon

Yeah, I'm thinking of getting some 18x8.5 +44 Rota DPT's with 235/40 tires but I'm not sure how difficult it would be to fit. Want to drop my car similar to yours and not sure how much fender work would be needed or if there would be enough room between strut tower and inside of tire...

You'd be looking at 9mm less inner clearance and 17mm less outer clearance from my setup. I think it should fit. Fronts should be fine at my height worst case a small spacer, rears would likely need a fender lip roll. it will really depend on how wide the tire is you get and what alignment specs you run. If you had a means to adjust camber more aggressively than what stock affords, you could be fine.
I'm actually looking at doing 18x8 +35 and 225/40 now. Should be interesting, but should fit fine w/o excessive camber. A rear fender lip roll will be required.

Yeah I don't want to run much camber. I hate the cambered look, defeats the purpose of the car in my opinion. What rims you looking at? I thought about some tarmac 3 rims I'm 18x8 but 225/40s look a little slim to me in terms of a sidewall.

I'm not talking 3+ degrees. I'm talking 2 degrees to fit what you're talking about. You can't get 2 degrees w/ the stock adjustments. Lots of camber is for guys doing stretch and poke and crazy stance stuff.
-2.0 of camber is great for handling and perfectly fine for dd use. Just make sure your toe is set t zero.
