Clutch Free Play Adjusts w/ Temperature?

So, I should have a new clutch in by the weekend, but I thought this might be important to figure out prior.

When drive my car early in the morning (the coldest point I would be driving it), I have a pretty good amount of free play on my clutch. As I continue to drive it, or if I drive it during a warmer part of the day, I have very little to no free play at all.

The clutch is on its last leg, but I find the self-adjusting free play to be a little disconcerting. Anyone have any ideas as to why it would be doing this?

I'd say that everything in the car adjusts with temperature over time, but the amount of adjustment you seem to be experiencing does sound more extreme. I have no idea on a remedy, or even if it's a real problem?

The clutch pad itself may just grab better when warmed up. Mine sucks when it's super cold out, I assume mine is OEM replacement with 250+miles on the car.

I agree with that - on a cold morning my car is reluctant to grab 2nd or 3rd until it's properly warmed up. Pretty sure its the original clutch at 102,000miles.
