GT visual differences over an "L".....

Hey folks, just starting a little brain storming....
I have a 99 BK "L" and wanted to update the exterior a little. What visual differences are there between the L and GT models? I ask because I am thinking about tracking down some side-skirts and lower rear cover from the GT. I have never seen one that was the color that mine is (Sandstone aka Tan) that had the matte dark grey paneling along the bottom like the GT. I stole a picture from Huffer, who has an amazing wagon I might say. Any tips on where to find them (junkyard) and how much they would run? Thanks for the help. Oh, and how are them mounted? It looks like screws mainly?....

Major exterior differences are simply the front bumper (though in your year you got the "blistered" front bumper - just no foglights), side skirts and rear skirt. And the scooped hood.

An L model probably won't have a sunroof (which is something I could actually live without BTW).

If you are looking for a set of sideskirts (and rear lip), scotty_frank has my old set from my BD (sedan). the rear lip will probably not fit, as the wagon bumper is longer.

Cool that is what I thought. I think that uncle sam wil buy them for me when I get my tax return..... That is unless they are taking California's lead with the IOU's. haha And I have the "blistered" front bumper, and even the sunroof! It is one of those 30th Ann. ones, so it has LOTS of strange things that other "L's" don't. Any idea of what they would run, cost wise? Oh and how are they mounted?.... Thanks for the help.

It also came with a rear spoiler (wing). On the earlier L's the door handles are left unpainted and the side stripping is also unpainted.

Yep, the 99s are basically the leftover parts from the final year... some of them even got the SOHC engine from the 00 RS.

The sideskirts and rear lip have mounting tabs - which you may have to drill holes, but I would honestly just drill *maybe* 4 evenly spaced holes and just use industrial adhesive. The skirts are plastic, so they need to be flexible.

The rear wing might also be an addition, but to mount that you have to drill holes in the roof and glue as well.

Cost... I sold mine to scotty_frank for around $150 I think. I believe that was shipped. Mine were used, with 218k on them.

I'm going to take mine off this spring and paint them white.

Hey Huffer, I have been studying the pictures of yours, and other GT's. I think I can do this. Quick questions though... Are the rear bumpers the same on the GT wagon, and the L wagon?.... Mine has a slightly different shape down low, though I believe that is the grey trim piece. Also, are the pieces just held on by screws at the ends (side skirts) and along the top of the bumper piece?.... Thanks for the help.

lol Figures that once I post.....I find my answers.... I had a look at Huffers picutres of the old black GT. That was the rear bumper shape, and the little white sticky things help with the side skirts. :cool: Just need to open my eyes. haha

I'm not sure about the rear bumpers but I'm pretty sure they're all the same without the rear lip.

Side skirts are held on by 1 screw (at each end) and about 40million plastic popper things underneath along with 3 bolts. WAAAAAY overkill. They (Subaru) should have put that installation money into decent headlights and some nice factory cams.

Funny, I almost bought a Sandstone 30th Anniversary L within the past year. I believe it was this past summer. Got any photos of your car? I doubt there are very many around. When did you buy yours and where/who did you buy it from if you don't mind me asking. I'm curious if it happens to be the same car.

Hey GC8, I don't think it was the same one. I bought it in the winter of 2006 (January) from a guy that was selling it for his son. His son was a teacher in Boston, and was the only owner before me. The father was in Cleveland. I don't think that there are many others around that are that color. I don't even think it was offered in the GT. Though I think it is a really nice color. Not to mention that is is a real odd-ball car.... It has the Gen 2 EJ22 (MAP, not MAF.....) has the GT front bumper, and a one of a kind color. I think it will look pretty good with the GT lower trim. Definatly different, especially wirh no wing. Oh quick question, how do those stick fasiners (on the side skirts) attach to the car? Screws?.... Here are a couple pictures.

:shock: ... I drove that car! The guy selling it was a white-haired older gentleman that worked as a nuclear engineer right?
Lives in a little old house in Chesterland, south east of Cleveland?

I knew of another one just like that actually. Unless by some weird coincidence it is the same one. But this one is in Colorado.
