1996 Legacy Wagon Tach & cruise questions

Ok I just bought a cheap little 96 wagon. It is a stripped down version and I was wondering what it would take to install an instrument cluster with a tach and Cruise control in this?

Tach cluster just plug in?

Cruise. I'm guessing i'll need all the cruise switches, servo, controller etc.

One other question. This thing is a manual and the key is hard to move from the acc to lock position. You have to mess with it to get it working. Is this normal?

You have a Brighton - the tachometer from an upgraded model will plug into the cluster you have.

Cruise control - you will need the cruise on/off switch, steering wheel controls and also the cruise module and throttle cables that attach to the firewall. Not exactly easy.

Your key issue - get a new ignition barrel + keys from Autozone, the key is probably worn out from repeated use.
If you want to use the same key in the door then you will need to get the doorlocks re-keyed.

Oh by the way subarus seem to be one of the easiest cars to work on. I just did the clutch in this 1996 in 6 hours total with my 3 year old helping. It was too easy. I pulled the engine. Seemed easier.

No idea on the cruise wiring... the module is located on the firewall (engineside) right behind the driver strut tower, next to the brake booster.
