i have a 95 subaru legacy with a ej22 with a auto and the the crank snout is out of round. so what years motors will bolt in and use all the parts on the motor now. the local junk yard has 2 89 ej22. from what year to year are the motors interchangeable?

dont want to sound like a ASS! but all of this has been covered before, all ej series engine are interchange able. but you are going have to some wire work on the if its not the right year, and make. it all mounts to the same spot. SEARCH

i want to put another ej22 back into the car but i cant find a 95 motor local but other years no problem. i just wana know if their are any diffs between the years ofr the ej22e motor. can i put a 94 or a 96 ej22 in place of the 95? is what i was asking from the get go. i just want a drop in motor bolt up and plug up.

The motor will bolt up no problem, but won't necessarily plug right in with no trouble. Since you have a 95, its OBD 1 and you will have major wiring issues wiring an OBD 2 engine. OBD 2 started in 1996 for all vehicles no matter make or model. I would try to find a 95 or older engine, but I'm not sure how far back you can go before there will be electrical issues.

ohh...lol my bad, i think they should be all the same as long as its the same engine code you should be fine, theres 2 engines that came in the later years, 2.2 and 2.5 just make sure you get the 2.2 not a 2.5 http://www.cars101.com/subaru_legacy_archive95_97.html hope that helps...

i belive all ej engine have the same harness plugs. so any 1.8, 2.2, 2.5.. obd 1 or 2 will plug in. as long as you get an engine with the same engine code it will be direct plug and play. you dont have to worry about any problems

i found a ej22 from a 94 legacy that has 48,000 miles on it. so i should have no problem with this motor going in the 95 chassis. with such low miles should i change timing belt and water pump?

if the motor has been sitting for awhile, rust could have build up in the water pump, and some of the coolant passegs, i would just do a water pump, and when your in there mit as well do the T-belt, its not goin to hurt anything.

this statement is wrong as obd2 started in 95 for some vehicles

I was about to say the same thing. I had a 95 Altima, that Autozone kept telling me it was OBD1 which was untrue. Usually looking at the exhaust manifold and following it to your cat while counting O2 sensors along the way, is a good way to know. If you have 1 sensor= OBD1, 2 sensors OBD2 etc...

95 was the transition year for OBDII, so some cars are I others are II, one way to check is if there is a plug under the dash for the obdII...

Yeh, sure some 95 vehicles are OBD 2, but most are not. If you want to get so technical, it federally mandated in 1996. And I never said that earlier models weren't OBD 2, I was stating that 96 and newer are for sure OBD 2.

OBD 1 will still have a plug under the dash, it just most likely won't be the 16 pin connector that every OBD 2 has.
