Well my neighbor borrowed my Legacy with a worn out clutch and trashed it. I thought I could maybe get another 5,000 or so miles out of it, but he killed it. He was on a very steep but short hill (a driveway about 100 feet long) in 2nd and the car stalled. Instead of starting the car and just coasting backwards in neutral to the bottom and trying again in first, he started it on the hill.
Someone in the car said a lot of smoke was coming out of the engine compartment.
I asked him if my car was OK and he said, "What do I care?" I guess I should thank the old bastard for not just coasting downhill backward with the engine on and the transmission engaged. What an asshole.
I'm going to a new mechanic (not a subaru specialist) on this one. My current shop charges $110 an hour and the business manager is an angry hostile man so I think for a car that is worth $3000 on a good day $110 an hour is too much.
The new guy has done quite a bit of work on my friend's 2000? Outback including replacing the manual transmission.
QUESTIONS:
Is there anything special about the clutch replacement on a 95 2.2?
Is it just a standard job?
How many hours should it take a good mechanic (but not subaru specialist) to do?
Should I take a big dump on my neighbor's front door step?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
David
