what are my options for a drop in filter on a 98 2.2l legacy? I dont want a filter that needs to be oiled as I dont want to fry my maf.

never heard of ppl frying there maf with an oiled filter. you could always look into a hks style filter.

most of the time its the excess oil from the filter dirtying the MAF, you can just clean the MAF with MAF cleaner spray if that happens (or not oil the filter excessively in the first place).

K&N's come pretty heavily oiled from factory. A quick dab with a paper towel and you're good to go.
"GREEN" filters are dry, reusable ones.
So all aftermarket ones are oiled?

Yeah the lifetime ones (like from k and n)
hmmm found out the Blitz LM ones arent oiled, anyone hear anything good about them? How long does a non-oiled one ussualy last?

How long is that piece of string again?
It depends on your driving conditions, how much the engine is run, and really the filtration capability of the filter.
If you live in a dusty area, just a regular paper filter (factory) changed often will do better than a super-expensive filter that you only change once in 30,000miles.
