After having my Stromung High Flow Cat installed, and the rear O2 sensor not being connected, I obviously threw a CEL. I checked the code and saw it was P0420 (I think, can't remember 100%). I tried to clear it using my Scangauge but it didn't clear. I figured it was just because of the sensor not connected. So this past weekend, I ghetto rigged the wiring for the rear O2 sensor, although I may have criss-crossed one of the white wires. Anyway, I after the wiring, I started the car up but the CEL was still on. I pulled the codes with the Scangauge and noticed there were 2 codes this time, P0133 and P0420 still. However they both cleared out.

I was driving today when the CEL came on and I pulled a P0133 code again.

Is it possible that during the install the shop may have damaged the front O2 sensor? The car runs fine, but I'm assuming a new front O2 sensor is in my future? It was too dark to crawl underneath and take a peak.

I may just say fuck it, and try to find a new front O2 sensor (if needed) and new rear O2 sensor with a Federal spec harness and see if I can get my extension to work. I don't want this ghetto wiring job.

How old is your front O2 sensor? It might be going out. What did you do to "ghetto rig" the rear sensor?

couple things that cause this code
The oxygen sensor is faulty
The wiring to the sensor is broken / frayed
There is an exhaust leak.
so check if you have an exhaust leak, then look over the wiring. sometimes if shops twist the o2 wires when they come out they can damage the wires. if not you may need any o2

The front O2 sensor is as old as the car; 10 years and 76k miles.

I cut the wires between the female end of the harness and the O2 sensor itself and patched in my own wires to make the harness long enough to reach the motor.

I just popped the hood and didn't notice any issues with the wiring to the sensor. Would a potential leak conceivably be before the O2 sensor in order for it to throw that code? Or could it be anywhere. I don't notice any sounds of an exhaust leak but that doesn't mean anything. I'll have to look around at lunch.

If it comes down to it, I may just replace both. I did that when I did a full exhaust system on my Jeep. Plus I could get rid of the ghetto wires. Just to confirm though, these are the parts I'd need, right?

Rear O2 Sensor (Federal spec)- http://www.subarupartsforyou.com/cp_par ... artid=2329 (http://www.subarupartsforyou.com/cp_partdetail.php?partid=2329)

Front O2 Sensor- http://www.subarupartsforyou.com/cp_par ... artid=2331 (http://www.subarupartsforyou.com/cp_partdetail.php?partid=2331)

I'm assuming they would come with the harness too. I don't want the CARB Spec because that would be the shorter harness.

Yeah the leak would have to be before the sensor for it to matter. Sounds like you won't go wrong by replacing at least the front O2 sensor. You can probably hook up a good OBD-II reader and get the values from the rear O2 to see if you wired it in right, or you can just get the OEM replacement and forget all the wiring.

Yeah I'd really like to forget all the extra wiring. I'm hoping that if I go that route, which I probably will, that the combination of the Federal Spec wiring harness and the extension I bought will do the trick for length.

Subarupartsforyou.com is all OEM I'd imagine?

Well I emailed them and haven't heard back yet. I'll give them until Monday, but then I want to get his problem fixed.

The links I put are the correct parts, right?

Great, now I'm showing a P0141 code.

did you just wire the harness up for the rear o2?
might have to much restiance for the heater circuit
because for p0141 things that cause it are high restiance in wiring or heat circuit, or opens/shorts in the wiring

Yeah I did. I didn't care to look underneath to check things out, I just ordered new sensors front and rear. I'll look tomorrow.
