http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showth ... +light+mod (http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=485&highlight=fog+light+mod) <--- theres one place to look, if that write up doesnt help (the second corrected one) try searching there, I'm sure they have something on it now, otherwise follow those general guidlines for identifying all the wires. Someone here also posted up a website that had wiring diagrams for every vehicle...maybe someone will remember it and post it here for you. Good luck!

hey ryan, thanks for that link. there are a total of 5 foglight mod pages on scoobymods i do believe. thats the one i couldn't find again... so thanks for that link. i have the wiring diagram, i have the haynes manual and forgot it was in there, so i'm trying to figure it out that way.

that link you posted might be the key, i'm not sure. i'll look into it later, right now i gotta get out the door!

i've got a bigger thread goin over on nasioc as well. this has been a project for me for about a month now.

thanks again!

No problem, I'm going to be venturing into doing that myself if I ever get around to upgrading my lighting (morettes, rewiring, maybe some hellas on there) this summer, best thing you could do is to take the general process of integrating new relays and see how it matches up with our wiring diagrams. At least you already have everything apart to make it easier to find the wires. Let us know how you make out.

Ooo, this is one I haven't ventured on, but sure have missed having them.....I used to have them (independant fogs) on my Jeep Cherokee.

Nice thread to have resurface.

I installed a factory fog light kit on my 99 BG. I managed to wire it in such a way that my fogs can be turned on with just the park lights, and will stay on with the high beams if I desire. Don't know now much that will help those with fog lights installed at the factory.

if you were to tell us how you wired in the relays, or just how you wired it in general, it might help a ton... but then again you are talking 99, a whole different beast than my 98. mitchGT is looking to find out for that year actually.

This is the thread at NASIOC where I wrote up what I did:

holy chit, i think i got it!!!!!!!!

the red/blk wire coming from the multi-switch (directional lever) needs to be spliced to the yel/blu of the fog light switch. the yel/blu needs to be CUT BEFORE that splice in.

why for all that?

the yel/blu is the relay-on wire, only powered with low beams on. simply change the relay on from the headlights to the parking lights, and it should be gravy.

why not just run a live line to the foglight switch? then the fogs would be on when the car is off... dead battery, BAD! this way should save your butt. (mine too)

carrman... i should smack you for not smacking GGT and i for not realizing what your post meant.

anyhow, yes, he got it. and i was on the right track, almost there, but iw as unsure of what i was coming out with and it was exactly how carrman said.

i might try it tomorrow, i may not... i am leaving town at 330am thursday so my time tomorrow will be very limited.

I did quite a hack job on my L to get the fogs to work like that. Behind the dash was the plug for cruise control (not installed on mine) so I used a volt-ohm meter to find the 12volt wire. Then took the OEM fog switch and again used the volt-ohm meter to find what pins the switch opened and closed. I then hooked the 12volt lead from the cruise plug (i'll say why later) one side of the fog switch. I bought a 30amp relay at AutoZone and wedged it into the fuse panel under the hood, then ran a wire to the control pin on the relay from the back side of the fog switch. Ran wires to fog light assemblies (sine the L's don't have wiring harnesses anyway). Then ran a ground for the relay, and put an inline 30 amp fuse from the relay to the positive battery teminal. The fogs will come on whenever you push the switch, even if the parking lights aren't on. The fogs (when wired from the cruise plug) will also turn off with the ignition. No dead battery...

ps.. It is alittle more involved if you want the interior and status lighting to work...

BB98, I like your idea...the cruise control swtich is ingenious...now I just have to find another junked legacy with one in it! I will do that :)

the cruise control swtich is ingenious...

not the switch... its a brown plug behind the switch pannel. If you have cruise, it won't work this way.

Look it up in your repair manual

No, I meant using the cruise control type switch for the fogs, so it started fresh every time...would this work? (Yes, I have CC)

I have my whole steering wheel apart just to confirm that the red/black wire is 100% sure it's for the parking light/turn signals.

ooberdoob never confirmed if his method worked.. did anyone else try his method with success? I've found the only red/black wire coming from what *looks* to be the directional lever but it's hard to tell because they all get wrapped up in a black jacket.

Edit: So I cut open the jacket that has the wires going into the directional lever.. there are no wires in there that are red with black stripes.. there is however a wire that is solid black and another that is solid red with a yellow dash on it. :-(

Took some pics:

That's the red/black wire (I'm assuming) It's underneath the steering column where all the bundle of wires come together.

Plugs into a white connector

The back of the fog light switch. That's the yellow/blue wire you're supposed to cut. I tried connecting this directly to a ground but it didn't change anything; it still functions the same way.

That was the slit I cut to see what wires come from the directional lever.. the red wire has a yellow dashed line on the opposite side. (From left to right the wires go: black, red, white, green, white, yellow)
