i was struck with instpartion for a falshing tail ligth that would only come on when you were "panic stopping" is there a way to tap into the abs system so that if the abs kicks on it triggers a flashing relay for the high mount light?

Run a circuit from the ABS module/relay so that it runs in series? Bit rough though, if you have a bulb out your ABS might not work. I'm not a 'lectrician.
I really don't think it's a good idea to have that kind of flashing - people tend to wonder why "is that joker's lights flashing like that? Must be driving a Taurus".

This is a really interesting idea...I have a feeling it might not be possible/safe unless you have a LOT of electrical knowledge, but would be an interesting idea in general if car manufacturers implemented something like this.

well you would have to find a signal wire that goes on when the abs kicks on. the wire in a flasher to pulse the signal to the relay. then you can have the light flash when the abs goes on. but it sounds unsafe to other drivers

i present you with this:

Mercedes seems to think that a flashing brake light during panic stops with reduce rear end accidents
personally i think its a great idea, i have seen emergency vehicles that had a blink feature when the pedal was first applied and it drew my attention significantly more than i think a standard light would
i know from the 48 hours of tristate there were about 47 cars in convoy and i was near the tail end of the line and would've loved some brake lights on the car in front of me that let me know that they were slowing from 60 to 15 in a hurry and not just using there brakes to slightly adjust there highway speed, there definitely was a short period of time of "oh there slowing down a bit just let off the gas" to the "oh shit hit the brakes hard" thoughts in my mind

Its an interesting concept and I'm sure it works, for some reason I'm still not liking the idea though...

One of our engines has the aforementioned tail light systems. The LED tail lights flash quickly before they go solid when the brakes are applied.
I've also seen what appeared to be an aftermarket third brake light that flashed when the brakes were hit, regardless of how hard they were braking.

I've seen these tail lights on Civic SI's and the Hybrid Civics here in Vancouver.
I may be mistaken but I believe they may come standard on these models...panic braking lights I think they are called.
I actually did a search and, although I found nothing related ot an OEM panic braking system or red alert system on the civics, I did find this...

I also found a video of a Misubishi Galant with the flashing tail lights. ll taillights flash during panic stops only. Hmmmnn, lets see if I can get a link to this...here it is...not sure if this is OEM though...from what I read on the description of the video, it is...

The www.8thcivic.com (http://www.8thcivic.com) site has a DIY, although it might be very different for our cars.
