Well as I have found out winter is not a good time to good car searching.. at least with Subaru's... I've narrowed down to 4 cars all BG's only thing is they are all Auto's (yuck) only one of them is in a color that is hard to find... (black with black leather interior) Would it be pointless in say buying the Auto and keeping it for awhile until I saw a good deal on a Manual BG? I doubt I'd find the same color or stick with the Slushmatic and hope I can get miles out of it like sybr?

I suppose it really depends on how important it is to you and how much you're going to spend on it. You should probably also consider the possibility that you might not find the car you want or things might not work out and you'll end up with the auto for longer than you thought. Just saying, pick something you might be happy with.

I remeber you saying something about how you didn't want another auto ever again. Don't go against yourself and jump at first low priced, decent shape, automatic Subaru you find because you'll just regret it in week or so after when you find a 5sp one. Just hold out man, you'll find it.

I was car shopping for 3 months before I found my car. And I had to drive about 2 hours to see it. My budget was originally only going to afford a BD/BG/GC but I found someone selling a BE for only 1k more (this was when BE's were still selling for over 10k) so I jumped on it.

Remember, as the buyer, time is on your side, if the car doesn't feel "right" you shouldn't plunk down a good amount of your hard-earned change for it. :)

I hear what you're saying from my zip code 06830 on auto trader I can only find 10 5MT's in a 100 mile search range... if I can help it I rather not go all the way to PA because that's going to be a little hassle. I never knew a 97 with 210k could still go for over $4k...

also I have noticed with BG models a lot or I should say a few I have seen have issues where the rear bumper is not flush with the rear body work.. almost as if someone hit or sat too much weight on the rear.

If you want a manual & don't need a car right now, hold out for the manual.

I have the manual on my 95 BK and it makes all the difference in the world. I have a friend who is a high school teacher and just somehow has money. I don't know where he gets it but it is just there. Anyway, he has been through like five NEW Outbacks over the last ten years with a Nissan SU something or another in there as well. He's not leasing either. My point is, I once drove all over Colorado with the $28,000 fancy pants Outback with him and the automatic made it a DOG. I couldn't believe it. The manual transmission makes all of the difference.

well the thing is I'm giving it 3 weeks and 5 at the most to find a maunal I know how the manual feels I did work at a subaru dealership I don't know if its because of winter or whatever.

also Dave I won't be able to do something like that maybe two weeks ago when I was off for a week..
