I've been reading around a couple of forums but none that have really helped, here is my situation i have a 2.5 dohc 1999 legacy it keeps overheating i've replaced the waterpump, t-stat, and radiator with in the pass month yet it still overheats daily. The weird thing is besides when it blows coolant out of the overflow when it over heats i can take the radiator cap (also been replaced) off with it still being hot and no pressure is released and no coolant is visible in the radiator I've must have put it seems like 3 gallons of water into it i cannot find any leaks anywhere ive been all over the motor can anyone help me.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's the head gaskets.

Very similar to what happened to mine. Unfortunately, I think KAG is right. Very pricey repair. I was quoted $2400 to replace the head gaskets and a clutch (parts and labor).

haynes book is awesome we did headgaskets on my moms 25, my 22 and my current 25... just follow the torque steps and patterns. oh and replace the headbolts (they stretch into place hold torque or some crazy like that lol) bring the heads to a machine shop and have them check and machine the heads. my 22 we checked with our tools and turned out to be bad anyways. if youve overheated more than once its definitely worth having a shop check it. my local shop only cost 100 for both heads.

PS. my moms was a 99 2.5 with the exact same symptoms.. my dad did the exact things as you then we did gaskets... :smt010 its unfortunate
