Quick Shifting

Hey guys this is my first post. i got this 99 legacy sedan a couple onths ago. it is unfortunately an automatic tho. But when i run it it is slow shifting into 2nd. It can get up to like 5 or 6 rpms when its in the first gear. all the other shifts are at normal rpms 3 or 4. I was wndering if there was anything i could do to to make it shifter quicker out of 1st . Thanks for the help.

umm that could be really bad...as in tranny going out thats similar to what mine did

does it always to that? and is it always at 5-6 or does it shift normaly sometimes?

No it shifts normal all other times it only does that when i try to like race someone or somethin. when i give it gas really quicker.

drain and flush your transmission fluid. I'd also recommend draining and filling your differential fluid. Its possible your transmission is on its way out. Both these will help delay or remedy your transmissions hesitant shifting.

its probally the transmission kickdown system doesnt want to shift up because its sees a really demand. and until it see a lower load on the car it will shift

Well the farther you press down the gas the higher the RPM's go, but it shouldn't go much above 5500 unless you have it floored. If it goes above 5000rpm and you only have the throtle pressed down half to 3/4 of the way its probably a tranny problem

Another thing if when the rpms go up that high and it finaly shifts if it shift smoothly to the next gear its probably the kickdown system or something electronic but if it jerks and does a really hard shift its almost defenatly guna be the tranny going out

check ur tranny fluid and see if it smells burnt if it does smell burnt it would probably help to do a tranny flush

and do some reaserch I had my tranny replaced and it was almost $1500 bucks but the cost is all labor so I wish I would of payed a couple hundred more and got a baja turbo auto tranny put in or something similar that will hold a little more power

Is your car warm when doing this? for automatic models the car wont shift out of 2nd gear until the tranny is warmed up enough.. but 5 min of city driving should be enough before getting on the highway..

I found this out since I used to live so close to the highway it would stay in 2nd gear for about 45-60 seconds before upshifting to the next gear. Due to the transmission not being warm enough.

^^^Pretty sure its 3rd gear. it wont shift in to 4th till the tranny fluid is like 45 degrees or something like that but he said this was happening in first and 2nd

yeah your right 3rd gear I just checked..

hmm maybe his bands are getting worn out or need adjusting?
