Hey guys

I will doing a swap to a JDM EJ20 single turbo engine from a legacy. I will be using my auto transmission from my 2.5L for the time being. Now obviously i wont be able to use my stock ecu. So what do you guys suggest, what engine managment system would be best for this set up?

im new with all this engine stuff so please bare with me.

well the jdm stock ecu that came with the swap , if you even have that?

nope they didnt have that. nor the harness.. so i was just thinking to get a USDM wrx ecu that was an automatic..

wtf, and from what i know your in for a bit of pain! cuz most of the time when you get a swap you get everything, front and rear harness, ecu, engine, crossmember and everything else in the engine bay! and getting a usdm wiring harness and ecu mit not work with the engine? try asking for the harness and ecu from who ever you bought it from save ur self the pain!!!

nope they dont have the front and rear harness ecu crossmember. All they have is the complete engine. Well the crossmember i can modify it to fit the turbo engine but ya ecu and harness is a pain.. iono

you can always strip the engine down to the block and start from there. take al lthe sensors out and put all of yours in.

So use my stock 2.5L engine sensors etc etc and mix it into the EJ20 engine?

JDM swaps have been discussed a few times.

The chassis doesn't matter its all about the engine w/ matching ecu and merging your chassis (body) harness. Excluding Drive-by-wire

id think it would work but wait for someone with more expeirence then me to chime in. cause im pretty sure newer wrxs and stuff with the AVCS and things are different. and would require those to be plugged in and good to go.

I think I will just go with the easier/cheapest way. Management system, but i searched the only applications is for the 02 plus wrx and sti's nothing for legacy.

You will never find a specific EMS for older legacy's (BC/BD/BE chassis). No turbochargers no need for EMS.

EMS are not the easier/cheapest way. Sure you can drop in a $400-1500 EMS that may be plug and play but they all come with base maps. Even if you can find proper maps for your engine the chances are slim.

You need to tune. Spend money on dyno runs and upgrading parts to support your EMS like a wideband o2 sensor, maf vs map, etc.

There are a number of EMS you can choose.

Hydra Nemesis
MegaSquirt
AEM
etc..

All the above will do the same but again you need a proper tune to even attempt to have a driveable car let alone reliable.

well the conclusion is no more engine swap. Just gonna take the down, up pipe, wrx turbo, intercooler ,turbo header and just slap it on. And then Im gonna start looking for a 93 right hand drive bd legacy tt =)

Probably a good idea. Without the harness and ECU you'd be in trouble unless you're a wiring guru.

3 knocks ...2 knocks...1 knock.. Detonation.... :smt012

Your better off building franken2.2t All the bolt ons you have are still usable and the 2.2t from a BC legacy is pretty cheap and local.

How much HP does that EJ22T put out anyway. And whats the max hp it can take

RE: http://www.cars101.com/subaru_legacy_archive.html
2.2L, overhead cam, 16 valve multi-port fuel injected
Turbo-charger, 8.7 psi max. boost
160 @ 5600 rpm
181 @ 2800 rpm

the above block matched with your EJ25D heads is a great combo.
