no MAF/moved MAF????

ok, this has me really confused, lately I've been buzzing around youtube and I have stumbled upon any vids of EJ25 blocks w/o MAFs where they normally are (between the filter and pipe) ie this vid here...

here's my question, after much frustration with having to reposition the filter so it sits properly in the bay, what are these guys doing that either moves or eliminates (pretty sure you cant) the MAF for better placement of the intake?

If there is another thread bout this just fill me in and I'll go search for it, i just walked in from cleaning the filter and MAF and thought about this question so just sat down and wrote it before i forgot, lol.

That engine has a MAP intake. It's likely a 99-05 Impreza SOHC EJ25 engine. Doesn't use a MAF sensor in the intake.

If your engine/ECU combo uses a MAF sensor, you cannot relocate it (very far) without recalibrating the ECU to compensate for the difference in signal... not something people do without some serious dollars. For a start, you'd have to have the ability to hack the ECU base map.
