That thing is pretty sweet; you sure can drive it! :smt023

And I thought Sybir was the only one who would ever have a RWD SS. If you welded your diff, are you stuck in 2WD unless you get a new center diff and put you axles back in?

nope all i have to do is put my front axles back in and im 4x4 like a truck in four wheel drive (yes it binds in slow tight corners a little)

the center diff is welded and the front axles have been taken apart and the hub ends are left in to hold the wheel bearings tight

Have you had any problems with your driveshaft, rear diff, or axles?

How much power do you think you're putting down? I have the stub shafts and RWD welded center diff staring at me on a shelf, and I'd been hesitant. I started getting some vibration, I belive it's from the front axles, and now would be as good a time as any for the switch.

Hot car, by the way. I love 1st gen turbos. :smt007

Haha, glad you found/rediscovered this place.

There's only 3 of us that have been rocking the RWD as far as I know - me (4+ years), sybir (~1 year?) and this dude

bmxkelowna, thanks for the info. I'll be weighing my options. I think I'm putting maybe 230 to the wheels. If I don't drive like an asshat, I'm sure everything will last.

NO guarantees. :smt005

What's stopping you guys?

The moment you hop in the car after doing this conversion, you'll ask yourself "Why didn't Subaru make a car like this from the factory?"

The WHOLE dynamic and behavior of the car changes. No more understeer into turns and steering control by right foot.

BMX - when are you going to get some more steering angle in that thing? I have some old front uprights I could shorten for you if you want...

This was our first one, a '91 SS (it got stuffed into a k-wall, heh). Stock VSLD's are useless with high mileage, as you can see.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/03/smk35b15d-2.jpg

This was circa 2004-5ish. This one got the idea going for a cleaner shell with more refined suspension the next time around, which led to the black car. I'm probably the only person that thought a RWD SS on coilovers was a good DD/commuter, though :D

BMX, car looks awesome. I love the color, I had a 92 TW in that color (owned it twice, ended up trading it for the black car) that I miss dearly.

I remember that car! You/someone posted that pic right after I got my R200 rear end rolling around.

BMX - I don't have msn, but you're welcome to hit me up on AIM (CRUNCHmonster)
