I am in a bind, I have an 98 Sti Swap, with 9R-TY752VBCAA manual transmission. My forester uses a Vehicle Speed sensor the swap has a cable type speed sensor coming off the transmission with a gear in the transmission. Now the TY752VBCAA
has 4.444 ratio, my forester has 4.111 gears. I was hoping to just swap the cable for the sensor so my speedometer can worK.

My questions basically is can the speed sensor option worK, can i just get rid of the cable for the forester speed sensor or the speed sensor from a forester xt which has 4.444 gears as well.

You can interchange the sender right on the transmission. It threads out and the one from your old transmission will thread right back in.

I had to do this on my 6mt, but the other way around. I needed to drive a cable for my '93 Legacy and obviosly the 6mt uses an electric sender.

Thats exactly what I wanted to hear now what about the gears for the speedo, say your orignal is 4.111 and u're running a trans with 4.444 wouldn't the speedo be off?

The speedo gear will be appropriate for the transmission, which is internal. The signal coming from the sensor will match what your speedometer needs to be at the correct reading.

I went from a 4.111 to a 3.90 without problems. The variance in speed I have is within normal for most subarus, which is slightly high reading. About 5 mph high at 80 mph. That or no speedometer are the options.

Ill take that instead of no speedometer

Also depending on the year car you have. If your car needs a speed signal to stay running normal without going into limp mode you can just switch over the cable on to the trans. The cluster will send a proper signal to the ecu so it will stay out of limp mode.

Just depends on what year forester you have. But it should work being they were all 97+

Well my forester is a 1999 with a cable/less speedo. It uses a Vehicle Speed sensor on the tranny. I am gonna just wire it normal so the dash works and then run a wire from the cluster to the ecu.

you should be able to just plug it in with the year car you have. There shouldnt be any problems.

try that and let us know.

my speedometer in the dasH works but even with the signal from the dash to the ecu the car wont go past 3000rpm. it like cuts off then comes back on. I'd guess its in limp mode. Is there a way to get out of this mode? what are my options here
