So searching the internet for some cheap mods, i come across the idea of the Hogzawst on Legacygt.com. I will include the article but the idea is to take out the screws on your exhaust flange and put 1, 2, or 3 washers on thue bolts you took out and replace the bolts so there is a gap in the piping where the flange is. Everyone who wrote back said it worked and was decent considering it was only a couple bucks for a few washers. But i have a few questions. This was done on a turbo, so will it work on my NA 06 legacy limited? I looked and didnt find anything on the NA guys. Also i live in PA and almost positive i need an emissions test every so often so will this fail my test having a gap in the exhaust flange (sorry im only 17, a n00b, and dont know a whole lot yet :-? )?

there are audio and video clips of the results but apparently are a weak representation on how low the rumble actually is?

so youre putting an exhaust leak in your car on purpose?

I guess that is essentially what it is. Would this be horrible for the car?

for spending 11 cents on each washer. you can give it a try. if not buy a $5 gasket and loose the washers. you wont hurt anything just your time

for performance? There's some loss with an exhaust leak, you're messing with the exhaust velocity and actually slowing it down and creating more turbulence with leak there. But as long as the leak is after the last oxygen sensor, I don't think it'll be detrimental to the car if you don't care about the performance and want the sound.

I had an exhaust leak in the UP before the turbo and let me tell you, not only did it sound horrible (which is subjective, I understand that, so I'm not saying anything about that) but my turbo spooled up a little slower and the car just didn't pull as hard (which is why I suggest to try this as far back in the exhaust stream as possible).

I have actually read the same post, and tried it on my N/A 2000 BE.I did it to the flange right before the muffler. I messed around with a couple different spacing amounts (1 or 2 or 3 washers) and actually got it to sound really good, nice and throaty. After a while I just decided it was too loud for me for a daily driver and went back to stock. I would say give it a try, easy to do and easy to put back.

this is a cool idea. I once pulled my muffler off completely to get SOME sound out of my car, but put it back on a couple days later fearing fumes leaking into the car. According to that thread, very little of the smoke/fumes escape through the gap so that's a plus. The one thing that bugs me is the nasty popping sound that comes with the exhaust leak. Still, as easy and reversible as this modification is, i think I'm going to try this tomorrow.

You're not referring to yourself are you??? :smt019

I agree that this may not be the best long term upgrade, but I do think it's an excellent way to cheaply and easily see what kind of sound level you want to keep on your car. Once you spend a bunch of money on an exhaust, you are stuck with it whether you like it or not. This way you can actually drive around for a while and see if you like the extra noise or want more...etc...

And yes it is dumb, more ridiculous than anything. This is a rice boy way for sounding "cool", in reality it sounds like shit. It's like (someone said it up top) like an exhaust leak. You will probably lose power too so it's pretty much....... dumb.

yeah i dont plan on keeping it on long at all. I just thought i would see what its like. Once i get money for a REAL exhaust this thing is coming off for sure.
