Just picked up a spoiler from a 96 for 50$. That should fit right?

Its black, and my car is dark blue. Should I leave it black? Your thoughts?

If not, what to use to sand and paint?

Lastly and more importantly any how to on how to install the spoiler?

Did you get all the parts to install it? I'm assuming you got it used. I bought a used one and ended up getting the install package from a subaru dealer. I had a body shop install it for me since I didn't want to mess up the holes. I would paint it, I think it would look better color matched.

If I remember it was about $150 installed, and that included the insallation pieces.

Unless you have experience with painting/sanding, I would just let a body shop paint and install it, that's what I did. The install involves drilling 3 holes in your tailgate, and messing up their position would not be a good thing.

I know the dealer uses a template for the hole drilling

To drill the holes, I first put some masking tape on the three area where the screws would go. Once taped I mounted the spoiler on top of the tape and pushed down hard. This left a mark on the masking tape, thus giving me a template. From then on the hardest part was drilling holes on the wagon. Took me less than an hour to mount.
that looks awesome! I agree with wagonista with the lines of the car thing..
how did you drill in the holes? i mean, did you have a template? or did you just kinda guess where they went?

I was getting my spoiler ready to paint, and it looks different than some that are installed. It is off a 96 outback.

That looks like a dust deflector, I was thinking that you had the wing style spoiler.

No wonder you got it so cheap, thats not the top spoiler, thats the wind deflector dealio.

Shipped it back, and they are sending me a real spoiler. Same price. They just made a mistake.

talking about dust deflector, i wish our cars didnt throw so much shit up on the rear window... lol detail the car, by the time you get home, there is already dust/dirt thrown all over the rear window...

I don't have that problem. Then again, my mudflaps are large enough that they scrape on speedbumps with only me in the car and they drag on the ground if there's a few people in the car. They could have something to do with the dust protection.
